Four Things Not to Miss in New York This Month
- Lunar New Year Festivities: The new Lunar New Year is commemorated Feb. 17 through March 3, so you’ve got plenty of time to celebrate all month long. Restaurants have some special things in store, including a pre-New Year’s collaboration between “Top Chef” winner Melissa King and Kiko chef Alex Chang on Feb. 10 and 11. Check them all out in our guide.
- V-Day Plans: With Valentine’s Day falling on a Saturday, restaurants are pulling out all the stops, all weekend long. Rolo’s is hosting its annual French bistro pop-up, taking inspiration from the French Alps, from Feb. 12 to 15. You could indulge in a luxurious afternoon tea on Feb. 14 at Yoshoku at Waldorf Astoria New York. Or learn how to make red velvet cake over at Milk Bar. Or settle into a lovely four-course dinner at Saint Julivert Fisherie in Cobble Hill. Find more V-day ideas and specials here. And check out our guides for date night and affordable tasting menus for $100 and under.
- Black History Month: February is also Black History Month, and what better time to visit the city’s incredible Black-owned restaurants? From innovative plant-based fare from Aunts et Uncles to comforting Senegalese fare at Cafe Rue Dix and thrilling Caribbean dishes over at Negril Village, there’s so much to savor. Find even more options here.
- Big Game Day: Game day is upon us — Feb. 8 to be exact — and it’s also a great day to try to get that hard-to-get-reservation. We’re talking spots like I Cavallini, Lei, Adda, and more. If you do want to watch the game, know that a few choice spots are ready to help you cheer your favorite (or not-so-favorite) team to victory. La Compagnie, Centre St is hosting a viewing party, furikake fries, kalua pig nachos, and beef puka dogs included. Achilles Heel is hosting a full-on buffet of “football-friendly foods” alongside complimentary beer. Rocco’s Sports & Rec is hosting a viewing party with passed game day snacks and a complimentary first drink. Over at Golden Hof, you can watch on their big screen, or pre-order a whole package of food to take home that feeds four to six ($115) by emailing events@goldenhof.com. More game day plans here.
