Four Things In Los Angeles Not to Miss This Month
- Celebrate Mother’s Day and More: Mother’s Day falls on May 10, and here are a few events you can take her to: Terry Steele performs Luther Vandross at Herb Alpert’s Vibrato Grill; The Tower Bar is hosting a three-course brunch; Westside moms might enjoy the prix-fixe dinner at 1 Pico at Shutters on the Beach; Leña at Sendero (located in the Downtown Ritz-Carlton) offers a traditional brunch. Then, celebrate the life she brought into the world, with an event just for you. May we suggest Cardinale du Vin’s F1GP Miami viewing party? Or, dinner and a classic vintage movie (ahem, “National Treasure”) at The Velvet Martini Lounge? For more mom-related (and not) things to do in May, check out our full calendar here.
- Open, Sesame: Book a meal at one of these hot new spots and impress everyone, even your most in-the-know friends. We can’t stop talking about Amiguita, the new Afro-Carribean inspired spot that took over the former Ruby Fruit space in Silver Lake. If you’re in the mood for dancing, it might be time to explore The Let’s Go, a new Arts District cocktail bar outfitted with hi-fi sound and crispy tavern-style pies. There’s also Santa Monica’s Big Sur Grill, where chef Phillip Wojtowicz (Big Sur Bakery) brings over two decades of live-fire mastery to the plate. For more notable restaurant news, head to New on Resy.
- Hot Off the Presses: There are a lot of fun new developments at beloved restaurants across the city: Altadena’s Betsy launched Bar Betsy, a new cafe and wine bar two doors down from the main restaurant. Los Feliz hot spot Wilde’s is now home to a big red window for cafe orders. Venice’s Si! Mon introduced weekend brunch. There are new desserts at every neighborhood’s favorite breakfast spot, Superba, including lemon meringue pie, banana tarte tatin, and a 12-layer chocolate cake. And, just because they can, Tsubaki rolled out new chopstick rests (don’t steal them, or else).
- You Have a Dining Q: We have an answer. Need booze, brunch, and zero questions asked? That’s why we recently updated our guide to the best brunches across the Southland. Your friend from New York is in town and won’t stop yapping about East Coast pizza supremacy? Obviously, consult our full, fresh guide to L.A.’s best pies. Or, maybe you just love Andy Pages and want to scream from the rooftops: “M.V.P.!” Well, we don’t know about rooftops (or the legality of your request), but we also gave our guide to Dodger Stadium-adjacent dining a facelift. Check them, and the rest of our guides out, right here.
