Pride Power:In June, Washington, D.C. turns technicolor to celebrate the Capital Pride Parade. This year’s route also takes a new direction running further south down 14th Street, NW, into Downtown D.C. Rum Royale Time: Summer means it’s tiki drink season. For a colorful display mixed in with a tasting of local D.C. rums, head to Thrasher’s for their Rum Royale tiki bartending competition taking place on Monday, June 3rd. All proceeds support the humanitarian aid and relief organization, World Central Kitchen. Tickets are only $10 and include an up-close look at D.C.’s most creative bartenders competing for the title of Rum Royale. Snacks and cocktails are included, plus you pick the peoples’ choice award winner.
Celebrate Dad: On Sunday, June 16 say thanks to dad with an epic Father’s Day brunch. In Maryland, J. Hollingers serves up a surf-and-turf style brunch buffet with chicken and waffles and crab deviled eggs. It’s reasonably priced at $35 per person for an all-you-can-eat feast. Gather For Juneteenth: Celebrate Juneteenth this year in the historic Anacostia neighborhood. Here you can also partake in the Smithsonian’s Juneteenth Freedom Celebration. The event includes live music, cultural performance, and allows you to bring-your-own food. Nearby takeout options include Open Crumb and Milk & Honey.
