The Resy Guide to Late-Night Dining in New York

The city’s O.G. blueprint for yakitori is wonderful for many reasons, but what earned it a spot on this list is that they take reservations until 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Celebrate your late-night adventures with as many of their yakitori as you can stomach (do know that the chicken gizzard and chicken meatball are required eating) and toast with a glass of Japanese whisky.

Dinner until 2 a.m.? In Grand Central? We’re already on our way. Go classic here for late-night French eats, with steak frites, trout almondine, and leeks vinaigrette, knowing that there’s practically no chance that you’re going to miss your train home.

If you’re a night owl, or if you’ve ever worked in nightlife, you’ve probably heard about L’Express. It’s a favorite among the midnight dining crowd for its late hours (4 a.m. on Friday and Saturday!) and classic, no-frills Parisian-inspired menu. Go for the burger or a comforting short rib bourguignon, some rosemary fries, and a few pints of whatever’s on draft.

The late-night bites menu at Heritage (served until 11 p.m. daily) is one of the best- kept secrets of Bryant Park. Who knew you could get Neapolitan and thin-crust pizzas, wood-fired branzino, and lavender creme brûlée way past your bedtime? The central location makes this spot ideal for starting a glamorous night out, or ending one in style with a pizza snack — our favorite kind of snack.

Mexican food is one of the best options for late-night bites; there’s something about the spicy flavors and perfectly crafted margaritas that just makes us swoon. At Kahlo, their late-night menu is served until midnight and has dishes ranging from cochinita pibil tacos to black truffle esquites. Don’t forget the drinks, either; if you’re done for the night, the horchata mocktail is particularly delicious.

Miss Korea is part of a dying breed of 24-hour establishments in New York City, a worthy reason to add it to your list alone. If you need more, though, you should also know they serve a sprawling menu of sizzling Korean barbecue, from beef short ribs to scallops. This is the spot to hit when you’re with a group. Maybe go to karaoke after if you’re not ready to head home.

Can even call yourself a diner if you’re not open 24 hours? We’ll have to check, but no matter here, because Kellogg’s most certainly is. After a recent overhaul of the classic spot’s menu thanks to a new chef  and a Tex-Mex focus, we now have huevos rancheros, poblano meatloaf, and chicken fried steak. Don’t skip the desserts, either, if you know what’s good for you. They also have a full bar, which is sometimes a rarity at a diner but always appreciated after midnight.

Golden Diner’s all-star team has done it again with their Korean gastropub, serving up dishes like Korean fried chicken wings, Buldak dumplings, and rice cake carbonara, perfect for snacking on when you’re nursing a cold beer. They’ve also got a late-night happy hour from 9:30 p.m. until midnight, (food served until 11 p.m.) with choices from jjajang disco fries to the much-loved Golden Diner cheeseburger.

You can’t go wrong at any of the members of one of our favorite restaurant families in the city — we love Hart’s, The Fly and Eel Bar — but Cervo’s has a special place in our hearts. Maybe it’s the fried skate wing, or the crispy shrimp heads, or the sheer amount of anchovies on the menu, or the vermouth service. Maybe it’s the fact that you can get all of that until 11 p.m. Whatever it is, you simply can’t go wrong here.

Hart’s is open until 10:30 p.m. every night, serving their famous clam toast with pancetta. Brooklyn’s favorite chicken bar, The Fly, serves their signature rotisserie and sides until 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and until midnight on Friday and Saturdays. And Eel Bar, with Basque bites and plenty of vermouth, is open daily until 11 p.m.

Greenpoint’s coolest listening bar also happens to have a pretty superb food menu that they also happen to serve until 11 p.m. every night. You can munch on their whipped Japanese eggplant, potato gnocchi with charred scallion pesto, warm olives in oil, and chocolate olive oil cake while you jam out to the sweet sounds of whatever DJ or vinyl is spinning that night.

Who doesn’t want to be a little adventurous for a dinner that starts at 10 p.m.? At Foxface, you can start a wild night right with dishes like kangaroo tartare and pastrami made from hirama — the menu changes all the time, so you’ll never get bored. It’s a small spot, which means the later reservations tend to be easier to snag, and it only gets cozier and more intimate as the night goes on. Pair your meal with a glass of natural wine, and be sure to explore the neighborhood afterwards — it is the East Village, after all.

Dine in the East Village until 3 a.m. from Monday to Saturday and 2 a.m. on Sunday at Ichibantei. We’re partial to the karaage, minced katsu, and agedashi tofu after the hours of midnight, but there isn’t much room to go wrong on this menu. Pair everything with a bright pink cocktail or a hearty glass of water, depending on what led you here.

The West Village is still buzzing about this French bistro, and stopping by for a a late-night dinner might be one of your best bets for getting in at this point. They serve the full, ever changing dinner menu until 10:30 p.m – you’ll also find it handwritten on chalkboards throughout the space. You won’t want to miss their saucisse puree, oeuf mayonnaise, or chicken liver mousse, all enjoyed perfectly at their full-service bar with a glass of natural (and, of course) French wine. The bar seats are also a favorite of owner Cody Pruitt, who gave us all the tips on how to score a Resy here.

Williamsburg’s all-day cafe happens to be a pretty stellar place to grab a late-night dinner. They take reservations until 10:15 p.m. on weekends, so you can enjoy your rock shrimp bouillabaisse toast, duck leg confit, and olive oil chocolate mousse right before you go out (or go home).

This Turkish spot happens to do several things worthy of mention. First, they serve a menu of dishes that includes pickles, feta phyllo rolls, branzino, and lamb. Second, they have a long list of creative cocktails that happen to be as pretty as they sound (try Constantina’s Cosmo, trust). Third, they take reservations until 10:30 p.m. So, yes – we’ll see you there.

New York’s seafood counter du jour is attracting plenty of high-profile celebs (hi, Emrata!) and James Beard recognition with its gorgeously executed ice boxes, impeccable lobster with brown butter, and luxurious caviar beggar’s purses. It comes to us from the team behind Claud, which sits right downstairs, and they take reservations for the counter (it’s a counter-only spot) until 10:30 p.m. (They also leave plenty of space for walk-ins, too.) Pro tip? Don’t skip the beer on tap or the ice cream sandwich.

From two veterans of The Mermaid Inn, Arden is one of the buzziest spots in the neighborhood. They’re open for dinner until 10 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays, and until 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. The broiled bone marrow with oxtail marmalade and duck ragu pappardelle have us salivating already. Top it off with a cocktail (try the Leo Rising, trust us) or one of the several non-alcoholic drinks on the menu like the Drum Beat with pomegranate, oolong tea, and pressed beet juice.

For a later-night next-door spin-off of the famed Smith and Wollensky’s, we can’t recommend Wollensky’s Grill enough. Here, they’ve got much of what you love about their namesake, like the famous pea soup, steaks and chops, and Wollensky burger. They’re serving these substantial bites until 1 a.m. every day of the week. It’s a little more casual than its sister, meaning they’ll probably understand if you end your night here looking a little more disheveled than you would next door.

You can stay out late until 1 a.m. on weekdays and 4 a.m. on weekends (with a DJ spinning) at Koreatown’s NOFLEX which, in our opinion, actually is quite a flex. There are trippy blacklights and digital art-filled walls to draw your attention, plus satisfying dishes like milk bread katsu sandwiches and cheese fries to keep you well fed. Finish it all off with a bottle of sake or a nightcap.

What started as a food truck has now grown into a bar and restaurant that still feels genuinely cool. Maybe it’s the low lighting, or maybe it’s the (actually very good) cocktails on tap, but the overall effect is one that’s both hip and understated — perfect to impress your date with food served until 11 p.m. from Sunday to Thursday and midnight on Friday and Saturday. The namesake chicken sandwiches are a must-order, especially if you’re ordering while your inevitable second drink is on the way. The Hot Honey, made with Thai basil and buttermilk, is a favorite, but you can’t go wrong with any of them. For those, the back bar is where you need to be. There, you’ll find cocktails with names like “Japanese cold noodle,” “mango sticky rice,” and “French toast,” (yes, you read that correctly) and those highly crushable sandwiches, too.

Note: Getting into Double Chicken Please can be a bit of a challenge, but here are some tips and advice for how to get in.

The Spaniard serves dinner, alongside their famously extensive whiskey collection, nightly until 11 p.m., and their smaller-but-mighty late night menu until 2 a.m. This is classic late-night fare — smash burgers, chips and French onion dip, and fries — alongside choices suited for more adventurous after-hours eaters, such as steak tartare, mushroom tarts, and crispy calamari and shrimp. Grab a seat at the definitively beautiful bar and let the night drag on.

Cozy up to some classic Italian American fare, brought to you by none other than Mario Carbone. If you don’t have the patience to snag a Resy at Carbone downtown, this more-casual-but-still-inviting uptown locale is the perfect place to end up. They take reservations until 10 p.m., often the perfect time to carbo-load with their baked ziti, chicken Parm, and garlic bread. Top it off with a negroni and you’ve got yourself a night.

Chelsea’s late-night spots are in abundance, but JungleBird manages to stand out from the crowd. Instead of regular fries, they’ve got Jungle-Bird seasoned fries with citrus chipotle aoli. Instead of regular burgers, try the smashburger served on a milk bun with pickled daikon and crispy onions. You can grab their late night menu until 1 a.m. every night, and the cocktails until much later.

Madame Vo’s steaming, rich Madame Pho is perfect for late nights, with beef broth that’s simmered for 24 hours. If you’re wondering whether it’s worth the upcharge to add short rib, we’re here to tell you that it most certainly is. With their kitchen open until 10 p.m. from Sunday to Thursday and 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, we can also wholeheartedly endorse the ga xao xa ot: chicken stir-fried with lemongrass, peppers, onions, and a sinus-clearing chile sauce. This is the kind of place where we don’t mind eating alone, for the simple reason that we won’t have to share with anyone.

Vinyl, omakase, and a highly curated liquor list? What more could you want from a late-night eats destination? Studio 151, right above the music venue Nublu, fits several bills. If you’re looking for a more substantial dinner, you can order off their sushi, temaki, or hakozushi menus. Smaller bites? Try the wasabi peas or the fried eggplant with ginger. If you’re looking for a party, Studio 151 spins until late — 2 a.m. Sunday through Tuesday and 4 a.m. Wednesday through Saturday.

We admit, the first thing that drew us to The Turk’s Inn was its interior. Modeled after the inimitable, since-closed midwestern supper club of the same name (check out the original’s sign hanging above the entrance), it’s opulent, gaudy, and perfectly tacky. Cat paintings right out of the Goodwill bins, plush gold banquettes, and napkin fans? Count us in. But this place is more than just a gimmick. Open until 11 p.m. on weekdays and midnight on weekends, the food, mostly of the comfort variety, includes a relish tray, cheese cloud, and several varieties of the martini, all of which are worth the trip.

Open “’til late,” they’ve got oysters on the half shell, artichoke dip with crostini, and an excellent fried chicken and sides. Last call for the kitchen is 10:30 p.m. Once you’re done eating, walk through the back into Karasu, a Japanese cocktail bar and restaurant from the same team. There, you can grab oysters and sip sake at the bar.
