Where do chefs go and, more importantly, where do they love to eat? In Resy Regulars, we ask Resy chefs to tell us where they’re regulars.

In this edition, we’re chatting with Sam Yoo, chef-owner of Golden Diner, a buzzy Chinatown spot serving diner classics with Asian influences. Since 2019, the Momofuku Ko alum and native New Yorker has been concocting dishes like green tea coffee cakes and egg and cheese sandwiches on sesame scallion milk buns. But running a restaurant is never easy — the building is old and weathered, and any day can present operational challenges like leaks, floods, and fires. So, when he does find himself with a rare “pocket of time off” from the daily grind, he seeks carefree comfort food to enjoy with his girlfriend.

“I’m not necessarily looking for the most highly designed places or the best service when we want to go somewhere and just be nourished,” Yoo says. Essentially, they’re places where he can turn off his phone or put it on silent and enjoy the “sacred time” to forget about the crises of that day, and catch up with his partner over beautifully executed food.

Here are a few of Yoo’s favorite date night spots, in his own words.
