The A has earned a proud reputation as a proving ground for the young, the bold, the ambitious and audacious. We’re a place of “interesting rules,” as Keith Lee gently observed (to dramatic outcry) and wild experimentation. More importantly, it’s a hot spot for the hungry – both diners and chefs eager to test limits. The hungry and curious open themselves up to surprise and delight at practically menu-less establishments like Gunshow, Spring, Georgia Boy, and Omakase Table. They expand their palates, and dash preconceived notions, at spots like Delbar Middle Eastern and Palo Santo.
In a city this difficult to define, and so resistant to hard and fast labels, we’ve still tried to create some order. Here are 10 restaurants that defined dining in Atlanta this year – ones that pushed our gastronomic boundaries the same way hordes of eager new ATLiens push our city’s geographic ones.
