These past 12 months have seen Houston’s dining scene continue to evolve, with even more noteworthy openings in a city already brimming with vibrant, varied restaurant options. Surprising team-ups, well-executed fusion, quality seafood, and reinvention were among the major themes of 2023.

It was the year Eculent chef David Skinner and Street to Kitchen’s Chef G made the coupling of Native American and Thai indigenous cuisine make total sense at th_prsrv. The year Houstonians finally got a new sushi spot from Chef Hori, even if took 13 long years after the widely extolled Kata Robata opened for Katami to arrive. The year chef Thomas Bille got a second chance with his newly revived Mexican-inspired Belly of the Beast, and that chef Terrence Gallivan of The Pass & Provisions returned with Elro Pizza + Crudo — and much, much more.
