It’s a busy few months, we know, whether you’re dining with your core crew, a business prospect, or perhaps … someone special.

Arts District

Amid a bloom of neo-Korean offerings in the city over the last few years, the return of this fermentation-forward restaurant is worthy of special note. The concept for Baroo started as a humble 16-seat stall in a strip mall, but has morphed into a sleek five-course tasting menu with creative inflections and emphasis on meticulous craft. Husband-and-wife duo Kwang Uh and Mina Park are behind the magic, offering novel signatures on the refined menu, while nodding to some popular efforts from their street market days.

The Vibe

Don’t let the “fine dining” nomenclature intimidate you. The industrially outfitted Arts District space is meant to rebuff any stuffy expectations and encourage a sense of play, on the plate and in the vibe.

Can’t Miss

With access to a bit more kitchen firepower and resources, the creations on Baroo’s menu can lean into seasonal bounties, wonderfully esoteric produce, and more. Prepare to wrap your mind around the flavors of complex, composed standouts such as red yeast makgeolli bites with gouda and pichuberry, as well as fried gaejang soft-shell crab.

By the Way

One of the most anticipated components of the new Baroo is the beverage program. Industry pro Jason Lee is pushing the tempo of Korean beverages, with an emphasis on soju.

Dudley Market

Venice

Digging its heels into the original spirit that Venice embodied before its recent evolution, Dudley Market serves to fill a communal void. With a passion for sustainable seafood—and a commercial fishing license to back it up—the team here showcases the treasures found in the sea, along with naturally leaning wines to fill your glass.

The Vibe

Straddling the fence between breezy West L.A. fisherman’s outpost and friendly dinner party. The mismatched chairs, reclaimed wood, and walls of wine bottles add to the conviviality.

Can’t Miss

As you’ll be steps from the beach, expect a fresh rotation of seafood, such as Peruvian scallops dressed on the half shell. And just because the crew here spends a lot of time in waders, don’t sleep on the Dudley burger—featuring wagyu beef, dill aioli, and a bacon and caramelized onion cheddar jam.

Ysabel

West Hollywood

At Ysabel, the mood is set the moment you walk through its unmarked stone tunnel and emerge into a magical courtyard punctuated with olive trees. Whichever indoor or outdoor nook you find, expect an elevated and relaxing lounge-like experience with a thoughtfully crafted menu of contemporary American dishes, nestled into the Hollywood Hills.

The Vibe

Twinkle-lit, an abundance of marble, and midcentury modern décor enhance a timeless California classiness.

Can’t Miss

This is the perfect spot to order a few pastas to split with your dining companion or the larger table. Our eyes are on the spaghetti with kale and Marcona almond pesto. Also recommended: the premium cuts of steak.

The line-drawn designs along the neon-lit outdoor staircase provide an edgy and artistic backdrop should you be feeling photogenic after a craft cocktail.

Yess Restaurant

Downtown LA

Fresh off a mini-hiatus for renovations, Yess has reopened its ornate cypress door to diners to Arts District diners with a restructured prix fixe menu. But the experience hasn’t changed. Located in a landmark 1920s former bank building, celebrated chef Junya Yamasaki has evolved his sashimi food truck operation into an open and immaculate space where most reservations have a front-row seat at the grill. Seasonal Californian staples are given a pure Japanese cooking treatment, with special attention paid to the fish (e.g., an everchanging assortment of sashimi).

The Vibe

Impossibly tall ceilings with walls of windows keep the elegant interior awash in natural light during the day, while grill embers help to keep things glowing at night. An added special touch: Each seat in the house is constructed from surplus wood sourced from the infamous Ise Jingu shrine in Japan.

Can’t Miss

The team is taking a new approach post-renovations with a prix fixe format that leaves your choice open for the main course. Openers will manifest in forms such as bluefin tuna tartar with eggplant miso dengaku and anchovy escabeche. Then, it will be time to decide your meal’s headliner, which may be something like a steamed whole rockfish with sake and clams.

The robust selection of inspired vegan offerings is channeled from Yamasaki’s days of preparing dishes at a Buddhist monastery outside of Kyoto.

Hollywood

One of L.A.’s more personal and culturally profound storytelling spaces can be found within Chef Tolu “Eros” Erogbogbo’s immersive pop-up concept. At Ilé (“home” in West Africa’s Yoruba language) ingredients are sourced from West Africa and supplemented with fresh offerings from local farmers markets to concoct a tasting menu that proves that food always finds a way to communicate and connect.

The Vibe

A singular, elegantly adorned dining room table where contemporary West African dishes are paired with a recitation of the memories they’ve evoked. Plus, you can BYOB.

Can’t Miss

Speaking of evocative: Stops on this culinary tour include jollof rice with steak and oyster mushrooms, and pepper soup served tableside.

Bar Funke

Beverly Hills

It’s clear that renowned chef Evan Funke has the Midas touch when it comes to pasta, but his golden touch has officially extended to golden hour. Perched atop his eponymous pasta lab, Bar Funke takes full advantage of the real estate. The unbeatable vista here is far more than a consolation prize for guests hoping to nab a reservation downstairs. It’s worth a designated outing. Enjoy a pared down menu and sublime cocktails al fresco while you while the sun sets.

Bar Funke is the pièce de resistance of a years-long renovation project to bring back the original glamour of its building’s 1930s Art Deco style.

Mírate

Los Feliz

Tasked with being a space that embodies both nuance and boldness, it makes sense that Mírate would require three floors. It also avoids any shadows cast by Mírame, the original project of chef Joshua Gil and partner Matthew Egan, which sadly closed this summer. But Mírate is radiant; its expansive footprint includes multiple interiors to enjoy whimsical cocktails, refreshing ceviche, and a sampling of tacos.

The Vibe

With luxurious lush décor details pulled directly from upscale hospitality gems in Tulum, Mírate fits right into the rest of Los Feliz’s nightlife scene.

Can’t Miss

The drink selection feels particularly rare and special with spinoffs of known classics that add a distinctly Mexican flare. Think Negronis with Oaxacan mango brandy and martinis featuring campechana water. For food, the quickest way to contentment likely includes a couple of the rotating taco selections.

Little Dom’s (Los Feliz)

Los Feliz

Should a pang of nostalgia for old-school Italian fare strike, Little Dom’s is at the ready. This offshoot of the legendary Dominick’s offers a shake of New York red-sauce influence with a laid-back Los Angeles perspective, all on a pedestrian-friendly Los Feliz block. The brick façade and salvaged glass windows are so quaint, you’d think it was pulled directly from a Hollywood set—which isn’t too far off considering this beloved Rat Pack-ish  haven has attracted plenty of A-listers.

The Vibe

Vintage framed Hollywood headshots and oversized wraparound booths, plus an evergreen welcoming aura, all but solidify your regular status.

Can’t Miss

Scratch your itch for a perfect bowl of spaghetti and meatballs, or choose to be wowed by the surface area of the chicken Parm. Both pair equally well with an ice-cold martini.
