July Independence Days: Celebrate the 250th anniversary of the establishment of the United States in once-in-a-lifetime style. It’s easy in Atlanta, where nearly every neighborhood is turning out with a bevy of festivities. Centennial Olympic Park will host Look Up Atlanta with live music and one of the largest metro fireworks displays in the state, and dining at recent Rundown star Zephyr, inspired by our railroad history, keeps the patriotic pride hyperlocal. To the east, you can grab a drink at Fawn Wine and Amaro Bar or The Reading Room before or after catching the Pied Piper Parade in Decatur with a drink, while due north, in Chamblee, Robin Thicke is headlining just steps from Antiguo Lobo and Hopstix. Neighboring Dunwoody has one of the biggest Fourth parties in Georgia, complete with floats, marching bands, and vintage cars, and even more variety with dining at Politan Row at Ashford Lane. Of course, that’s not even the half of it, compounded by the fact that Bastille Day also falls in July. Get international with your freedom parties at Bar Blanc at Little Sparrow, Café Alsace, Brasserie Lundi, or L’Antoinette.

Summer Sipping: After a 22-year ban, happy hour is now officially legal again in Atlanta! In this economy, we can certainly raise a glass to wallet-friendly drink specials like those at the bar of Il Premio, Bar Pilar, Boqueria, 5Church, BEY Mediterranean, El Ponce, Pêche Modern Coastal, and many others. Then let’s raise another to the cocktail programs that have made Atlanta one of the best places to drink in the country. Here’s to the pioneers — Kimball House, Ticonderoga Club, Bar ANA, Jojo’s Beloved Cocktail Lounge, Patria Cocina, Vesper — and the ones pushing forward with new offers, like Southern Belle’s new outdoor extension Belle Bar. And let’s not forget the burgeoning crop of wine bars, including Madeira Park, Fawn Wine and Amaro Bar, Side Saddle Wine Saloon & Bar, Commune, and places with fantastic wine programs such as Miller Union, Spring, and El Viñedo Local.

Best of the Fests: Every month is an opportunity to celebrate food in Atlanta, and this one is no different. The Atlanta Summer Halal Food Festival returns to the Historic Old Fourth Ward Skatepark July 11-12, highlighting the diverse range of cuisine that follows Islamic ethical and dietary laws. You might be familiar with favorites like Halal Guys, but this is a great way to discover that it’s so much more than that … and then branch out to Yalda’s Persian and Middle Eastern and Divan Restaurant & Bar to reach yet another level of deliciousness of this genre. Just in time for dessert, PeachFest returns for its 12th year on July 12 at Underground Atlanta, as we honor our most famous fruit, with cocktails and bites featuring our state’s best, Pearson Farms peaches. Keep an eye out for peach collabs with your favorite Resy restos — last year, Kitty Dare, Miller Union, Kevin Rathbun Steak, Southern National, Natalie Bianca, Auburn Angel, Boone’s, Marcus Bar & Grille, and more came to the table with seasonal specials and we expect no less a showing this year.

Where to Kick It: As a host city, Atlanta’s straight ballin’ this summer as the international sporting frenzy becomes another great way to show off our city. Hotels downtown have been hustling to show their best sides, and newcomers like Ashland at Loews and the aforementioned Zephyr have proven they’ve been up to the task. For any game, sports bars like STATS Brewpub have become clutch go-tos, and The Brewhouse Café has expanded from Little Five Points to a second location in South Downtown. Close to there, Der Biergarten keeps the global theme going. Bigger spots like the new Peachtree Sporting Club and tried-and-true Monday Night Brewing are also hosting watch parties, but if you’re headed there, line your belly first at Bovino After Dark. Decatur WatchFest gets the whole square in on the action, and lets you step away from it all with a bite at LEONs Full Service or Kimball House. North of the city, Suite 200 Sports Grille is reliable for both good viewing and good bar bites from goal to goal.
