I’ve been going to Joe’s for as long as I can remember …

And have always ordered some version of the same mix of dishes: shrimp cocktail, chopped salad with peanuts and Joe’s incredible vinaigrette, large stone crabs, and many, many sides, but always grilled tomatoes, creamed spinach and fries. And the most important part for me: Joe’s famous key lime pie. Pro tip: While Joe’s is very fortunately on Resy, don’t be deterred if you can’t find a reservation online. The restaurant is enormous and you’ll always get seated if you walk in. You may have to wait but part of the fun is getting a Bloody Mary at the bar before you sit down.

Maty’s is special in every single way …

From a phenomenal menu that introduces you to variety of Peruvian dishes (including a welcoming twist on ceviche) to very friendly staff and tremendous energy from its head chef and owner: Val Chang. Some of my favorite dishes were the scallop ceviche, the grilled prawns, the choclo (which is a fantastic side dish based on creamy corn), and two delicious and nicely presented dishes: the el dorado (grilled fish) and the oxtail. The picarones (sweet potato-based dough) is a very fun and light dessert.

To Tâm Tâm, so you can order everything on the menu. The two most memorable dishes on a recent visit were the lotus root salad and the Tâm Tâm wings. Don’t skip out on the karaoke bathroom.

Boia De is everything I look for in a restaurant

They are uniquely themselves and overdeliver on every bite. Don’t miss the beef tartare and do your research on which pastas to try, because narrowing them down is the hardest part. Rest assured whatever your choice, you will be rewarded and can never go wrong with the agnolotti.

We ordered half the menu for lunch at Mandolin

Everything was spectacular. My favorites were the mussels and the snapper fish sandwich. Everything tasted so fresh. I think it goes without saying, but the vibe in the restaurant is unparalleled, a true island getaway with the best blue Instagrammable door. I felt like I was in Greece. It was the perfect weather to sit outside on their patio. Don’t just order one thing, experience meze, salads, and mains. You won’t regret it.

Make sure to enjoy the spectacular cocktail list …

And try as many tapas as you can at QP Tapas. My favorite dish there is the pan con tomate. It is simple and tasty and the best version of this tapa I have had.

While in town for the inspiring Lengua Conference …

I went to Branja, an Israeli restaurant helmed by MasterChef Israel winner Tom Aviv. The space is so cool, an indoor/outdoor venue with a stained glass ceiling. I had hummus with a ridiculous garlic confit, “fish & bread” (literally hamachi ceviche on focaccia), “fishwarma,” and an amazing tahini pie. Definitely go before sunset so you can experience how the space changes from day to night.
