25 Historic Restaurants Honored in $1 Million Grant Program. These Are Their Stories

By

At Resy, we believe that classic restaurants are the heartbeat of their communities.

Today, American Express and the National Trust for Historic Preservation announce 25 historic and culturally significant restaurants in the U.S. that will receive $1 million, funded by American Express and administered by the National Trust for Historic Preservation to help improve the restaurants’ physical space to better serve customers and offer the grantees critical operating funds. This is the second consecutive year that American Express and the National Trust for Historic Preservation have honored 25 historic restaurants across the country; see last year’s list here.

Each restaurant will receive $40,000. The hope? To ensure that these legacy restaurants are able to survive this crisis stronger than ever, and that their stories continue to be told, because in turn, these restaurants represent the stories of our cities.

These independent small restaurants, which represent a variety of different cuisines and locations across the country, are required to have been in business for at least 25 years and operate in historic buildings or neighborhoods. Read their stories:
