25 Great New York Tasting Menus Under $100

At this lovely, cozy corner spot in Carroll Gardens, chef Nico Bouter (formerly of Flora Bar, Eleven Madison Park, Kingfisher) crafts a memorable $95 five-course pre fixe that takes its cues from around the globe. Think lamb guiso, hamachi crudo with kohlrabi and mandarin, and lobster ravioli, to name a few. Whatever you do, you’ll want to save room for the Tiger bread, served with a generous dollop of cultured butter and confit garlic.

Cost: $95 per person; $45 per person for an optional wine pairing.

Chef-owner Junghyun “JP” Park originally opened Atoboy by taking the Korean staple of banchan to new heights with a large-format, affordable prix-fixe menu. Ten years later, Atoboy is still going strong with an entirely revamped menu of new seasonal favorites like fluke with persimmon and wood ear mushrooms, sweet shrimp with white kimchi, and pork galbi. Longtime regulars need not fret, however: You can still order Atoboy’s excellent fried chicken with spicy peanut and yangyummy sauce as a $28 add-on.

Andrew Carmellini’s house of pasta is always worth a trip, but there’s something special about embarking on a splurge of this quality for lunch. Luckily, they have a steal of a pre-fixe menu, served weekdays from noon until 3 p.m. Choose from dishes like fried tomato rice, ricotta crostini, fusilli gigante with pesto and stracciatella, meatball parm, and pistachio gelato with pistachio sauce for dessert.

Cost: $38 per person.

Cost: $98 per person; $60 per person for optional beverage pairing (one cocktail and four wines).

Cost: $95 per person. An optional curated sake pairing is an additional $55 per person.

The beloved and ready-for-all-seasons outdoor dining setup at this Chinatown favorite for tabletop grilling might be gone for now, but Dr Clark is still a standout spot for a fun night out, kotatsu tables or not. If you’re looking for a tasting menu that’s ideal for a group, consider Dr Clark’s Choice ($69 per person). It highlights their Jingisukan tabletop grill with udon, along with seasonal soup, sashimi, fried chicken, scallop risotto, and Basque cheesecake.

Cost: $69 per person, with full table participation.

Cost: $58 per person.

Whenever you see “let us cook for you” on a menu, you’re pretty much duty-bound to go for it. Isn’t that why you’re here? At Marco Canora’s Hearth, if you so choose, they’ll whip you up nine dishes (four courses) served family style for $95 per person. It’s a great way to try what they’ve got on the menu lately, often involving lots of seasonal produce, housemade focaccia, and hearty dishes like cote de boeuf. Sit back and relax — the kitchen has it from here.

Cost: $95 per person, with a $65 per person optional wine pairing.

True to its Italian name, this Nomad restaurant embraces flowers in every dish. Executive chef Garrison Price (il Buco Alimentari e Vineria, Asiate, China Poblano) has designed a menu that showcases the very best seasonal ingredients, and his chef’s four-course prix fixe doesn’t disappoint. The menu changes all the time, but do be on the lookout for Price’s deft pasta making skills — especially with the black pepper and lavender pappardelle — and the arancini made with Arborio rice. 

Cost: $85 per person for four courses with a $40 per person optional wine pairing.

If you’re in the mood to try a little bit of everything — and at ilili, we can’t stress how important that will be — their family-style Lebanese Journey menu is 100% your next move. Make your way through pea mint hummus, fried kibbeh, carrots in labne, and for mains, a traditional lamb shank , mixed grill, or hearth-baked loup de mer. Mind you, those are only a few of the choices that await.

Cost: $80 per person.

Long before there was Bungalow, Semma, or Dhamaka, there was Junoon, and now they have fantastic two-course and three-course prix-fixe menus that are some of the best in town. Junoon pioneered elegant, nuanced Indian fine dining that melds contemporary influences with time-honored traditions, and that legacy continues today. Standout classic dishes include eggplant chaat, dry-aged duck with a Tellicherry peppercorn sauce, and ma’s rice pudding. And for newer dishes, you can’t go wrong with basil garlic paneer or tandoori octopus. Whether for lunch or dinner, it’s your choice of a variety of prix-fixe options. Better yet, the meals also include your choice of bread and lentils, and come with rice and raita.

Cost: $43 per person for two courses and $49 per person for three courses at lunch. $95 per person for three courses at dinner.

Cost: $56 per person for three courses at dinner, $35 per person for two courses at lunch.

Sometimes, you just need every course to be dessert. Enter Lysée, former Jungsik pastry chef Eunji Lee’s gleaming palace of patisserie. Their signature pre-fixe menu comes with their corn dessert, a trompe l’oeil mousse cake delightfully shaped and flavored like an ear of, well, corn; the signature Lysée mousse cake, flavored with Korean toasted brown rice and caramel; a seasonal tart; and a kouign amann.

Cost: $60.50 total, recommended to be shared between two.

This West Sumatran Indonesian spot, from chef Cédric Vongerichten, knows how to feed a crowd. When at Ma•dé, opt for the traditional hidang-style menu. Basically, all this means is that you’ll get all of your incredibly delicious dishes at the same time, including things like butterfish, crispy lamb ribs, and baked razor clams. It’s meant to represent abundance — and it definitely succeeds.

Cost: $68 per person.

Few chefs are as innovative and creative as Danny Bowien, and it’s been wonderful to see him back in action over in Chinatown the latest installment of Mission Chinese Food (MCF). While you can always order MCF staples like the addictive cabbage or Chongqing chicken wings à la carte, if you really want a taste of the breadth and depth of the menu, you can — and should — opt for their tasting menu. The tasting menu is a veritable banquet of MCF’s greatest hits and their newest ones, making the cut right at $100 per person.

Cost: $100 per person.

Cost: $75 per person with a minimum of two orders, with $40 per person optional sool pairing or $45 per person optional wine pairing.

This Korean American pocha from chef Jae Lee brings the best of both culinary cultures together in fun, creative, and wholly delicious ways. Some prime examples: the must-order chopped cheese rice cakes, and their legendary cheeseburger with two patties, a kimchi special sauce, and new-school American cheese. You get a taste of both of those when you and your dining companion opt for the “mixtape” tasting menu, offered for six family-style courses. P.S. A very similar tasting menu is also available at their original East Village location, too.

Cost: $49 per person for six courses in Bushwick or the East Village, for a minimum of two guests and full table participation.

This East Village Korean spot serves up a seasonal tasting menu that’s just $42 per person. For the winter, choose from dishes like citrus red shrimp naengchae, cod jjim, and kimchi pie. Best of all, you can add on both of the optional extras, which change with the seasons, and the uni and caviar supplements and still come in under the $100 budget.

Cost: $42 per person.

Pig & Khao knows how to bring the party, especially when you come with a larger group. You’ve basically got no choice but to opt for the family-style brunch or dinner meal options – any other move would be a mistake. At dinner, you’ll get bottomless rice, Piggyback shots or pineapple soft serve, and a varied number of small plates, noodle, meat, and fish dishes depending on the number of people you’re with. Brunch is a similar deal, with bottomless rice, a mimosa or coffee, and small plates plus sweet and savory dishes.

Cost: $50 per person at dinner, $38 per person at brunch with optional hour-long bottomless mimosa add-on for $10 per person.

P.S. If you want to splurge slightly more (or stay out slightly later), you could opt for their omakase special priced at $138 per person.

Cost: $97 per person. 

Everything about Little Hen makes us say “awwww.” The name, the flowery tea-service décor, and the endearingly mismatched plates make this a stop you won’t soon forget. Their afternoon tea service carries on well into the evening from Thursday to Sunday, with reservations available as late as 5:30 p.m. Treat yourself to traditional tea sandwiches, English scones with clotted cream, and an assortment of petite sweets – plus, you may as well add on that Champagne pairing, too, while you’re at it.

Cost: $48 per person for the afternoon tea service, with an optional $10 prosecco or $20 Champagne pairing that still keeps you under that $100 mark.

From Tuesday to Friday, this uptown outpost of a Tribeca favorite is offering a two-course lunch menu. Start things off with a little gem salad or tomato soup and then choose an entree like mussels in saffron broth, cavatelli with black truffle, a roast beef sandwich, or chicken schnitzel. Between the cozy dining room’s reclaimed wood and soft lighting, you’ll hardly remember you’re in Midtown.

Cost: $35 for two courses at lunch, if you’re here between Tuesday and Friday.

This isn’t a tasting menu, per se, but coffee connoisseurs will certainly appreciate making a weekend reservation to try one of Driftaway Coffee’s flights at their intimate counter in East Williamsburg. The selection changes frequently, but you can explore everything from single-origin and limited-release coffees. There are two different flights offered, each with a selection of three different coffees.

Cost: $35 per person for the “Funkytown” flight of light roasted coffees served black; and $30 per person for a “Coffee Three Ways” flight.
