The Campaign Spotlights Female Under-Representation in the Restaurant Industry and Celebrates the Many Ways Women Power Restaurants

New York – Monday, May 23, 2022 –
This June, Resy’s The Women of Food campaign returns for a fourth year to honor the women who power restaurants. Resy launched The Women of Food in 2018 to celebrate and illuminate women-led restaurants and to put attention on the systemic inequities for women pursuing careers in the restaurant industry.

“The Women of Food is central to Resy’s mission, to be a platform that champions voices and issues important to the restaurant industry” says Chandler Stroud, Resy’s Head of Marketing. “Resy’s women-led restaurants will be at the forefront of everything we do – editorial guides, interviews, events – with the goal of driving diners to them and raising awareness of the gender gap that continues to persist.”

“While there is certainly still work to be done, it is inspiring to see so many talented female chefs and industry leaders recognized,” says Hillary Sterling, Executive Chef of Ci Siamo in New York City. “I’ve been fortunate to learn from tremendously talented female chefs, and now have the important role of mentoring the next generation of women in the kitchen.”

In 2018 and 2019, Resy held Women of Food dinners in cities across the globe with trailblazing chefs including Dominique Crenn (SF), Nancy Silverton (LA), Missy Robbins (NYC), Asma Khan (LON) and more. In 2020, the planned 11-city dinner series lineup was cut short after its first stop due to the emergence of the global pandemic.

Chef and Restaurant Deborah VanTrece of Twisted Soul Cookhouse & Pours, who was meant to host in Atlanta, shared that she saw the series as an opportunity for empowerment. “As a leader in this industry, I am determined to use my platform to help uplift younger chefs, and to ensure the next generation of young women have an easier path than I did. It’s my hope that the next generation will be able to walk through the doors I am working to kick down.”

For 2022, the campaign expands to include a shoppable online collection of items from women-owned businesses and throughout June, Resy will give diners opportunities to:

  • SUPPORT women-led restaurants, by choosing to dine with them. Look for “Women of Food” guides in the Resy app and on Resy.com.
  • EXPERIENCE special dinners curated by Resy, featuring leading female chefs in 6 cities.
  • BUY kitchen goods from women-owned businesses, curated by Beverly Nguyen, Stylist and Founder of BEVERLY’S New York City. Proceeds will benefit the National Women’s Law Center.

SUPPORT | Dine at and spotlight women-led restaurants
Throughout June, Resy will guide diners toward women-led restaurants with editorial guides, features and collections. Editorial highlights include: Mashama Bailey rethinking how a restaurant can be run. Crystal Wahpepah fighting for Indigenous ingredients and cuisine. Amanda Cohen speaking out about female chef erasure. Niki Nakayama and wife Carole Iida-Nakayama sharing their success with a larger community. Follow @Resy on Instagram for female-focused content all month long, through a new Stories series, “Front of House, Back of House, Run the House.”

Each item will be selected by Beverly, in collaboration with the series’ featured chefs (Amy Brandwein, Beverly Kim, Hillary Sterling, Luciana Giangrandi, Ria Graham, Stephanie Izard). The items will be sold at shopwomenoffood.com beginning June 15. “I am deeply motivated by nourishing those around me with storytelling and food. This opportunity to partner with Resy’s The Women of Food initiative is one of many incredible ways to ignite and connect our beautiful communities together, especially following a time of distance,” says Beverly Nguyen, Founder of BEVERLY’S New York City. “Furthermore, The Women of Food isn’t an activation limited to the chefs featured in this collection — it is an ever-evolving dialogue that spotlights how to uplift and motivate the conversation that can touch individuals all over the world.”
