New opening!

Renowned chef Michael Mina has done it again — this time with Acqua Bistecca, a glamor-driven Italian surf-and-turf chophouse in City Ridge. Dishes like vermentino-braised lamb pappardelle with rosemary and chiles complement a brief but discerning collection of prime steaks and fresh catches, introduced by dramatic starters like “The Only,” a two-foot-long mozzarella stick topped with a generous serving of caviar. And the space is just as lavish, anchored by a 22-foot mirrored bar surrounded by velvet banquettes and cozy booths with nooks for an intimate yet funky dinner party vibe.

New opening!

12 modest seats stashed within the historic Federal-American National Bank building is all Michelin-starred chef Tadayoski Motoa needs to put his stamp on D.C.’s dining scene, bestowing his 20-course menu upon two lucky seatings per night with all the precision and poetic grace of a ballet dancer’s arresting solo. But that’s not to say it’s fussy. Instead, chef Motoa is an affable and friendly host, walking diners through dishes — featuring fish flown in daily from Japan’s Toyosu Market, two distinct styles of sushi rice, and premium sake — inside an intimate space swimming in blonde wood and warm lighting.

First opened in 1922, D.C.’s oldest continually running hotel is still holding court near Dupont Circle. From the stained glass accents to the ivy-strewn covered patio, dining here feels like stepping back in time. It’s especially enticing in the winter months, when the lounge’s roaring fireplace sets the tone for a menu of comforts like Chesapeake oysters, swordfish with black eyed peas and dandelion green pesto, and beef Bourguignon with gherkin gremolata. And don’t sleep on brunch, when the scent of housemade doughnuts beckons a steady stream of local devotees and curious hotel guests alike.

Named after Rock Creek Park’s towering tulip poplar trees, this 24-seat escape is zeroed in on all things hyper-local and low-waste. It features an ever-changing lineup of foraged and farm-fresh dishes from Chef Iulian Fortu, the foraging mastermind behind Arcadia Venture. Inside, designer Cerrissa Fitz sets an intimate tone, while Anxo Cider’s Sam Fitz fuels a fittingly artisanal drinks program. But a red-tiled pizza oven is the real star of the show, roasting everything from lion’s mane mushrooms to Mangalitsa pork coppa steak.
