The Atlanta Restaurants We Loved in April
If there’s one thing you must know about the people who work at Resy, it’s that we genuinely love restaurants …
This month, Team Resy reunited with one of our favorite Southern-ish Jewish delis, was wowed by miso soup, indulged in a hot new temaki tasting experience, and ate some really good fries.
I’ve somehow become…
… a person who prefers a fruity dessert over a rich, chocolatey one. So, I really enjoyed the earl grey soufflé at Bacchanalia. The soufflé is light and airy with only a delicate hint of tea flavoring, but inside, it contains a surprise raspberry preserve and it’s perfect — not too sweet and a little tangy. It’s a great way to cap off a rich meal at this Atlanta stalwart.

This place is always a vibe…
I always love going to Apt 4B: I went for my birthday this year but it’s also a very cool date night spot. The atmosphere is just so nice and chill, and they offer valet parking for $10 (the attendants are always nice). On my latest visit, our server, Jordan, was a ray of light. I had the oxtail plate (which comes with rice, peas, and veggies), while my husband had the fresh oxtail pasta. Needless to say, we’ll be back!

My shtick is really great fries…
… a good salad, maybe some amazing bread and butter, and a vegetable or two. Madeira Park is doing all that stuff really well. Charcuterie, olives, and fries, the chicory salad or grilled carrots, plus a glass of something sparkling is the way to go.

Everything Jason Liang touches raises the bar…
… and his latest reincarnation of Cuddlefish in Dunwoody is no exception. There’s a relaxed and modern sunlit coffeeshop atmosphere, a sweet little Japanese market, and a low-height counter for dining that undulates throughout the restaurant, which feels refreshingly unpretentious, casual, and comfortable.
The $95 12-course temaki tasting menu is incredible value, with overstuffed temaki and a mix of cold and hot dishes, including the most delectable miso soup (definitely order it if you opt for one of the smaller temaki sets, or choose from the à la carte options). Instead of wine, I encourage trying one of their delicate sakes by the glass or a savory sake cocktail.
And don’t leave without one of chef ChingYao Wang’s exquisite pastries. The scallion croissant and truffle mushroom croissant are incredible, as is the one-of-a-kind chocolate polo bun (a mix between a chocolate cookie and bo lo bao, aka pineapple bun). Pro tip: Warm the pastries up for six minutes at 345 degrees for a fresh-out-of-the-oven taste — I went back twice in as many days.

The new Cuddlefish in Dunwoody…
… is such a bright and beautiful space. I did the $95 temaki tasting and the standouts for me were the chicken nuggets (perfection) and the dessert, a mille-feuille temaki with banana — usually not my fruit of choice, but it was incredibly light, flaky, and not too sweet. Would love to go back for the rice bowl and some of Cuddlefish’s à la carte bites from the temaki bar.

I happily made the crosstown drive from…
… West Midtown to The General Muir when my husband and I moved to Atlanta in 2013. Years later, living in the ‘burbs, we delighted in having the Southern-ish deli in nearby Sandy Springs, only to lose it in September. Craving our feel-good breakfast spot, we grabbed our daughter and made a pilgrimage to the original location.
Sitting in the bright dining room with its familiar floor-to-ceiling windows, milk glass lighting fixtures, and black-and-white tile felt like a homecoming. I ordered the fish and potatoes breakfast set (latkes with nova, apples, sour cream, and applesauce), enjoyed every bite, and still had room for a black car cookie — their excellent black and whites were all sold out by then.
