‘More Than Reservations’ Reflects on A Decade of Dining and Offers VIP Dining Experiences Across the Country

NEW YORK, JULY 31, 2024 – In the 10 years since Resy launched and five years since it was acquired by American Express, the booking platform has become a destination to discover and book some of the industry’s most exciting tables, a curator and host of epic culinary experiences, a trusted source for restaurant intel, and an ally to the industry that connects restaurants to restaurant-lovers and Amex Card Members.

To celebrate dining’s most dynamic decade, Resy has launched More Than Reservations, a campaign that includes a look-back at dining events that shaped the culinary world in the last 10 years, a cross-country series of special experiences that invite diners to be a “Resy VIP” for a night when they eat out at one of nearly 50 restaurants, a reflection by Resy’s CEO on where the industry has been and how Resy will continue to support its future, and marketing that features nearly 300 restaurants across Resy and American Express channels to drive diners to support beloved Resy restaurant partners.

For five nights in August, Resy is teaming up with some of its favorite restaurants in Atlanta, Charleston, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New York City, San Francisco and Washington, D.C. to make diners feel like VIPs with special perks like welcome bubbles, off-menu dishes, specialty desserts, signed menus and cookbooks, chef meet and greets and more at participating restaurants. In addition, select restaurants will randomly surprise a lucky table with a bespoke, complimentary dining experience curated by the restaurant.

“Since Resy launched 10 years ago, our mission has not wavered: to help restaurants thrive. When a restaurant tells us, ‘Our business has done better, thanks to Resy,’ that is success. In the next 10 years and beyond, we’ll provide restaurants with more tools to run their businesses, fill their dining rooms with the best diners, tell their stories, and support their aspirations,” said Pablo Rivero, Chief Executive Officer of Resy and Vice President of American Express Dining. “We have worked hard in the last 10 years to become diners’ go-to resource – the digital partner they rely on to discover and book some of the best restaurants and experiences. Throughout August, I encourage diners to join us in celebrating and supporting our diverse, creative and resilient restaurant community. The ‘More Than Reservations’ campaign is filled with inspiration for where to go next.”

“I believe Resy cares not only for the success of their own brand, but also the success of the restaurant community,” says Brian Jacobs, CEO, Rustic Canyon Family. “Resy has always made us feel like we are partners and that they exist to help us give guests the best experience possible.”

Over 10 Years, Where and How Diners Dined with Resy

Since American Express’ acquisition of Resy in July 2019 through year-end 2023, the number of bookable restaurants on Resy has increased by 5.4x1. Today, there are approximately 20,000 bookable restaurants, including Resy’s Global Restaurant Network, and on June 23, 2024 a Resy customer booked the 600 millionth reservation on Resy  at Stoney River Steakhouse and Grill in Towson, MD.

Resy data shows what restaurants diners coveted over the last decade and how they dined in the winter, summer, on holidays, after the pandemic, early, late, and in between.

  • According to Resy data, the five most coveted restaurants since the launch of Notify (in 2015), based on Notifies set, in five popular dining cities:
    • NYC: 4 Charles Prime Rib, Carbone, Don Angie, Lilia, Via Carota
    • Los Angeles: Élephante, Horses, Jon & Vinny’s Fairfax, Mother Wolf, n/naka
    • Miami: Boia De, Carbone Miami, Joe’s Stone Crab, Mandolin Aegean Bistro, Rao’s
    • Chicago: Armitage Alehouse, Bavette’s Bar & Boeuf, Cicio Mio, Cindy’s Rooftop, Monteverde Restaurant & Pastificio
    • Washington, D.C.: Albi, Le Diplomate, Maydan, The Dabney, The Red Hen
  • According to Resy data, the use of Resy’s signature “Notify” feature took off after its launch in 2015. In 2016, Resy users set 7x more Notifies than the year prior and from 2021 to 2022 Resy users set double the number of Notifies for the most-in demand restaurant of that year (Carbone). In 2023, Notifies doubled again.
  • According to Resy data, diners tried harder to impress their significant others on Valentine’s Day than their mothers on Mother’s Day. Resy users set more Notifies for Valentine’s Day than Mother’s Day every year in the last decade.
  • According to Resy data, as New Yorkers head out East and on summer vacation, Saturday reservations in NYC dip slightly between the end of July and the end of August, as well as holiday weekends. To nab a typically tough Saturday night table, set a Notify and you might that “Hot Table Alert”.
  • According to Resy data, the “Occasion” most commonly selected in the Resy app was
      • Birthday (64%)
      • Anniversary (23%)
      • Business (10%)
      • Graduation (4%)
