The Resy Guide to Chicago’s 2022 Michelin Stars and Bib Gourmand Winners

Don’t be fooled by the name. Multiple experiences are housed in the Moody Tongue brewery in South Loop building, led by the stellar tasting menu concept from chef Jared Wentworth, who notches two Michelin stars for the second straight year.

For the second straight year, Porto gets a star, and for good reason: It is giving the underrepresented cuisines of Galicia and Portugal its due, unleashing an arsenal of seafood, gourmet conservas, regional wine, and sherries for its always-thrilling menu.

Giant made its name on a dynamic, seasonal American menu focused on unexpected twists on fresh vegetables, responsibly raised meats, and house-made pasta. But chef Jason Vincent’s menu, especially the new dishes, is so much more than that.

One of the earliest tenants of Restaurant Row, chef Stephanie Izard’s inventive small-plates restaurant still sizzles with great food and a lively vibe more than a decade since it opened — enough so that Los Angeles got one of its own last year. 

Set in Logan Square, Longman & Eagle embraces an ever-changing menu of regional American fare. It’s been named one of the best new restaurants in America by both GQ and Esquire, and its nose-to-tail cooking is always a highlight.

Lula Cafe has been doing the farm-to-table thing since 1999. The space is much larger now, but the dedication to good, approachable food remains the same.

Dig into Diana Davila’s peanut butter and lengua antojito or smoked beer-can chicken tacos, and transport yourself to summers spent in Mexico. Mi Tocaya’s cuisine is fueled by a deep connection to the James Beard-nominated chef’s heritage.

Andrew Lim and the team behind Perilla have taken Korean American cooking to its most fun, and unexpected, apotheosis. Yes, there is hot chicken and L.A.-style grilled galbi. Yes, there is the back deck, with its mural of First Lady Michelle Obama. But then there’s the roasted broccoli laced with Calabrian chiles and garlic butter. And the crispy scallion pancakes. And the beguiling white sesame Negronis. Surprises at every turn.

Chef-owner Carlos Tello specializes in moles, thanks in large part to his mother-in-law and consulting chef, Clementina Flores Bahena. Whatever you order, make sure it comes with fresh, housemade corn tortillas.

Carlos Gaytan earned his Michelin star in 2013, the first Mexican-born chef to do so. He returned to Chicago in 2019 with Tzuco, with a flat-out stunning vision of Mexican-French cuisine.
