The Atlanta Restaurants We Loved in March

By

If there’s one thing you must know about the people who work at Resy and Tock, it’s that we genuinely love restaurants …

This month, Team Resy was wowed by an omakase experience, dazzled by pancakes, devoured shell-on shrimp, and went to a delicious Laotian pop-up.

I don’t usually opt for pancakes at brunch…

… but I ordered the olive oil pancakes with orange labneh at Elektra to appease my 5-year-old, and ended up keeping them for myself. Light and fluffy, they’re topped with peaches in burnt honey, adding depth. The coastal atmosphere made them all the more enjoyable.

I’d been wanting to try…

Talat Market for a while and I’m happy to report that it was absolutely not overhyped. We were able to just walk in and sit by the bar, where the staff was so fun and friendly, and the crispy and fried shell-on Gulf shrimp was incredibly tasty. Overall, it was such a fun space to spend a night at.

Just when I thought Atlanta was starting to hit omakase fatigue…

… Leonard Yu and Paul Gutting gave the concept new life by turning it into a journey across all of Japan. At Ryokou, they showcase techniques and ingredients from different prefectures of the country, and add fun little global influences inspired by their personal culinary experiences. The presentation and ambiance was just impeccable, and the flavors and textures — to my tremendous delight and amusement — literally reduced my very eloquent boyfriend to a series of different pitches of nom-nom noises. I was particularly tickled by the Zen Garden, the first course, which was an assortment of perfect bites in a miniature garden you can play with while you wait.

After hearing that the food was on par with Delbar

… I finally got to try Yalda’s in its beautiful and spacious West Midtown space. The highlights were the lamb kabob (so juicy — it just melted in your mouth) and the za’atar labneh with the added pickled mushroom (delicious, especially when paired with the adas polo — a lentil and raisin rice).

One of the coolest dishes I’ve had recently…

… was the tlayuda de piedad at Pata Negra. Think a large tortilla with beautifully presented toppings, which included whipped avocado, black beans, portobello mushrooms, and grasshopper. It’s just one of the many delicious ways chef Octavio Ruiz pays homage to his homeland of Mexico.

If you’re looking for a really cool pop-up…

… head to OK YAKI on Sundays and Mondays for So So Fed. The mostly Laotian menu changes every week but everything was on point — the beef carpaccio and Laotian papaya salad were both so flavorful, and the absolute standout was the red bean milkshake.
