The April Hit List: Margot, Sadelle’s at Kith, News Café, and More

New to West Palm Beach’s Warehouse District, this café is bringing fresh, seasonal Australian cuisine for brunch (on weekdays, too) and dinner. This location is the first in Florida for New York’s Parched Hospitality Group, with a Miami location coming later this year to South Beach at The Abbey. From morning coffee to evening cocktails, the energetic, friendly staff serve guests with an Australian brand of welcoming hospitality and quirky spirit. The menu here features spicy Bloody Marys and signature Espresso Martinis to mushroom toast, brekkie Rolls, a chicken sandy, fish and chips, sticky date pudding, and more.

Antonio Bachour, the meticulous and world-renowned pastry chef (or should we say artist?) behind Michelin-recognized Bachour in Coral Gables and Doral, has expanded his portfolio with a new high-end French brasserie in Miami’s luxurious Design District. Spanning an expansive 5,500 square feet of indoor/outdoor space that used to encompass the former Prada showroom, Tablé by Bachour features a café, a glassed-in bakery and pastry studio, a market with a grab-and-go counter and attended charcuterie station, a full bar, plus indoor and outdoor dining room seating. That means you can dine here for breakfast, lunch, dinner or weekend brunch – all with an elevated, creative touch that fans of Bachour’s artistry will recognize.

When we last mentioned the Mayfair Grill, the new concept was just opening inside the beautifully reimagined Mayfair House Hotel & Garden. Now they’ve stepped up their game with a new Sunday jazz brunch, best enjoyed in the hotel’s lushly adorned tropical courtyard oasis and meant to be accompanied by the calming sounds of water fountains and an only-in-Miami style of jazz – gentle bongos, timbales, and all. The brunch menu features dishes inspired by the flavors of the American Southwest, from eggs Benedicto (poached egg, refried beans, and guajillo hollandaise on a corn sope) to silver dollar pancakes (blue corn cakes with mezcal maple syrup and sweet corn butter). Opt for bottomless mimosas and rosé or order from the refreshing mezcal- and tequila-forward cocktail menu infused with wood-fired fruits and veggies, peppers, spices, and salts. Sunday brunch is offered from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

A South Beach mainstay since the late 1980s, News Café is a throwback to a time when you could pull out a newspaper and read it at your local while sipping a cup of coffee, without the tethering of your smartphone to those endorphin-addicting pings. The iconic 24-hour sidewalk café and newsstand on the corner of Eighth Street and Ocean Drive shuttered abruptly in 2021, but the team behind local establishments like Havana 1957, Oh Mexico and Paperfish Sushi has taken over the location and reopened, honoring its legacy in South Beach’s world-famous Art Deco District, while infusing a new energy into the newly refurbished Tony Hotel. You can still enjoy an updated menu of extensive American favorites by chef Henry Hane of B Bistro, including all-day breakfast items.

The historic Ingraham Building in Downtown Miami is home to another creation of the Bar Lab team that has delivered some of Miami’s most chic and inventive concepts like Broken Shaker, 27 Restaurant, and MaryGold’s. Margot, named after Ernest Hemingway’s granddaughter, earned “Best Wine Bar” distinction from the Miami New Times and offers a cozy vibe for date night or drinks with friends in a dimly lit, yet colorful 1970s-style space. As the name suggests, the focus here is on an extensive list of natural wines and low-ABV cocktails, complemented by small plates by 27 Restaurant’s chef Jimmy Lebron, including brûléed figs, oysters and chicken liver pâté.

Level 6 is Coconut Grove’s new upscale rooftop lounge offering Spanish tapas and cocktails from Ink Entertainment, the same hospitality group responsible for its downstairs sister restaurant, Amal, as well as local standouts, Byblos and Sofia. With a retractable roof and glass windows that preserve the views of Biscayne Bay, Level 6 is the place to watch Miami’s sunset skies turn cotton candy pink with a cold cocktail in hand. Try Spanish staples like pan con tomate, pulpo, and a paella with truffle-stuffed chicken.

This hot spot known for its New York-inspired bagel towers, sliced-to-order salmon and triple-decker sandwiches now has not one but two locations in South Florida – one in Coconut Grove and a new location at the flagship Kith Design District store. Sadelle’s is a part of the portfolio of Major Food Group, the glitzy New York restaurateurs behind Carbone and Dirty French Steakhouse. While the Grove location features garden seating nestled under a big, shady tree, the new Design District location is on the second floor of the Kith store with checkerboard flooring, green counters, and Carrara marble. Largely serving classic breakfast and brunch favorites, Sadelle’s at Kith also offers select breakfast sandwiches that are exclusive to the location.

Former MasterChef Israel winner Tom Aviv brings the cuisine of his hometown of Tel Aviv to his first U.S. restaurant, Branja, located in Little Haiti’s Upper Buena Vista industrial-style outdoor shopping mall. Guests can choose between a casual dining experience in the rustic, yet breezy open-air terrace, or book a seat at the 12-seat Chef’s Table that offers two nightly omakase seatings – and if that chef’s table itself looks familiar, it’s because it’s the very bar formerly located at The Delano Hotel’s famous Florida Room. Branja’s hip-meets-hidden gem location is the perfect setting for the irreverent chef’s creative Israeli and contemporary world cuisine. The menu features Aviv’s upscale, inventive takes on Israeli staples, including dips, kabobs, a fish shawarma, and a halva crack pie.

Resy readers will remember Smorgasburg’s entry into the Miami market with its location in Wynwood, open on Saturdays and Sundays. Now, this popular outdoor food market is growing with a second (albeit scaled-down) iteration on South Beach in the heart of the Lincoln Road pedestrian mall. This will be a weekly occurrence on the 1100 block between Alton Road and Lenox Avenue, on Fridays from 5:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., featuring more than 20 of Smorgasburg’s most popular food vendors, like Santo Dulce Churros, Mao Bao, and Raclette Street. Lenox will be closed to cars during the event so you can wander from tent to tent and grab a bite to eat. Catch it for the next couple of months, as this special Lincoln Road edition will only run until May 26.
