Chef-restaurateur Andrew Carmellini first brought New Yorkers a taste of Italian food his way more than a dozen years ago with Locanda Verde. This time around, he seamlessly meshes Italian dishes and all-American steakhouse fare. Might we suggest the Milanese cowboy veal chop with charred lemon as a prime example?

You can’t keep a great restaurant down, and Gotham (formerly Gotham Bar & Grill) is back and better than ever with its former pastry chef, Ron Paprocki, now in charge of the whole kitchen and masterminding a vibrant menu that both pays tribute to Gotham dishes of old, while also breaking delicious new ground. As before, the menu draws on classic American staples and masterfully infuses them with global flavors and influences.

After charming Brooklynites with their green chile cheeseburgers and breakfast burritos, Santa Fe BK owners Melissa Klein and John Watterberg now have a full all-day menu of Santa Fe-style favorites, including Christmas-style smothered burritos, green chile chicken enchiladas, pozole, a green chile queso dip, margaritas, and off-menu sopapillas, among other dishes.

The more casual offshoot of bona fide New York institution Smith & Wollensky, Wollensky’s Grill is all hits and no misses. Don’t sleep on the rightfully famous pea soup, the prime rib, and a side of the hash browns.

Global Flavors

This outpost of the Lower East Side’s top-rated Isan Thai place kicks the Red Hook dining scene up a notch. Expect the same spice-forward signature dishes (the green papaya salad — “somtum” in Thai — is essential), with an added advantage over the LES location: patio dining.

This Bangkok transplant makes its mark with a menu of authentic Isan Thai dishes, full of herbs and spices, often fiery, always irresistible. One must-have specialty is the green papaya salad (“somtum” in Thai) with salted eggs — and don’t miss the lemongrass martini with house-infused vodka.

Come with a crowd to this Williamsburg sibling of Manhattan’s celebrated Café China, because you’ll want to sample as much as possible from the extensive, mostly Sichuanese menu, from the delicious poached wontons in chile sauce to the lovely tea-smoked duck.

Expect plenty of flavor and spice at this fast-casual Bryant Park Sichuan place, with its minimalist decor and its out-of-the-ordinary menu (chicken with taro, anyone?). Pro tip: Whatever else you order, go for the “noodle of the day” special.

You might think you’ve discovered a Mexican beach resort magically transplanted to West Broadway when you step into this tropical-flavored import from Park Slope, where the tequila flows freely and the tacos can’t be beat.

Descend into this rollicking two-story underground dining room in Bushwick and you’ll think you’re on a street in Bangkok, complete with thatched roofs, corrugated steel walls, hanging lights and pennants, Thai movie posters, even an outdoor-style movie screen. To eat? Thai bar food, traditional soups and salads, and roast pork dishes are just the beginning.

Like its crazy-popular Bed-Stuy location, this no-frills Williamsburg Mexican café is all about the masa, with varieties of heirloom corn ground and nixtamalized in-house and turned into tacos, quesadillas, tlayuditas, and a range of other antojitos that are as good as you’ve ever had.

Where to Drink

Here’s a chance to enjoy 21st-century fare, from honey-glazed wings to a signature truffle gnocchi, in surroundings evoking a glamorous past — complete with a 400-year-old clock, a century-old marble bar from Belfast, Italian stained-glass windows, and a portrait of the restaurant’s namesake, celebrated Victorian-era actress Lillie Langtry.

An all-year rooftop lounge crowning the Coda Williamsburg Hotel, with sensational cocktails, seductive bar snacks, high-energy DJs, and dazzling views of Brooklyn and Manhattan? Yes, please.

You won’t go wrong at this casual, clubby Theater District favorite, which stands out from its cookie-cutter neighbors with its appealing pub-food menu — perfect for a quick pre- or post-show meal — and its upgrades on classic cocktails.

A speakeasy with standout Asian specialties (think dim sum and lettuce wraps), and an equally outstanding list of cocktails, like a yuzu margarita or an elderflower mojito, Sei Less is where you’ll want to be on a night out. Pro tip: If you really want to splurge, consider ordering the lobster noodles, made with silky udon noodles in a creamy black pepper sauce.
