The Miami Restaurants We Loved in October
If there’s one thing you must know about the people who work at Resy, it’s that we genuinely love restaurants …
This month, we found love in pappardelle and orecchiette, cooled down with an affogato martini, and checked out a few new openings.
For an affordable tasting menu…
… in an intimate and modern space, head to Palma. The food always rotates, and on this most recent visit, I really enjoyed some oysters, steamed fish, and the bread service, which was sweet plantain brioche this time around. Excited to go back again for their fall menu, which chef-owner Juan Liscano said is going to be a great time if you love shellfish.

After a massive remodel project…
… that lasted a couple of years, Sunny’s finally reopened. It perfectly combines these awesome outdoor and indoor spaces, along with a fantastic menu to create one of the most memorable experiences in Miami today. Their steaks are perfectly cooked, the duck lasagna is great, the jerk pork chop is outstanding, and their piña colada sundae has a great punch. On top of that, their cocktail list is at the top of the game, having imported many of the great cocktails from their related (sadly, now shuttered) restaurant, Jaguar Sun.

As the definition of a small gem of a restaurant…
… Boia De hits all the marks. Their menu is meticulously crafted and covers a wide range of flavors — our favorites were the chicken liver and foie gras pâté, the pappardelle alla lepre (with rabbit, rosemary, and tomato), and the tiramisu.
Pro tip: You’ll need to plan ahead for a table, so know that reservations drop 30 days in advance at noon every day. (For more tips on how to get in, head here.)

It might be fall somewhere else…
…. but it’s still warm here in Miami. And ViceVersa’s affogato martini is the best blissful way to cool down. It’s listed on the cocktail menu, but the pro tip would be to tread this indulgent sweet sip like dessert, and end your meal with it. Think Grey Goose, coffee liqueur, and espresso combined and poured over pistachio gelato.

As a newly opened spot…
… I was super excited to check out Otto and Pepe. It’s got a unique pasta bar to dine at and a fantastic garden as well. All the pastas I ordered (all handmade) rocked, but the orecchiette al pesto basilico and the lasagna made with ragù, béchamel, and parmesan were phenomenal. Would highly recommend for a fun pasta experience

You can’t go wrong…
… with Rao’s, an Italian gem in Miami Beach that’s almost a year old. Inspired by their flagship location in New York, Rao’s serves classic Italian dishes with their staple sauces we all know and love. The perfectly cooked meatballs are a must.

It’s only a short drive north…
… to get to the best restaurant in Fort Lauderdale: The Katherine, helmed by chef Timon and Marissa Balloo. Every small plate is amazing and on this particular visit, I enjoyed the Thai charred cabbage salad, short rib orecchiette, and their critically-acclaimed Thai red curry fish (made with branzino this time around). But everything on the menu is amazing and worth multiple visits.
