Gazette Restaurant & Wine Bar Yorkville, New York
This is a European café and wine bar that knows how to keep things simple and classic. Think seared scallops with romesco, a luscious spring leek soup, and hearty rigatoni with pistachio pesto. Don’t forget a bottle of wine, and do know your server will be happy to assist in your choice.
TADHANA New York
At her solo debut, chef Frances Tariga puts Filipino culinary traditions and influences on full display here with a 16-course tasting menu that showcases the many facets of her personal and professional experiences. Think chayote and heart of palm lumpia, fried okra with anchovy foam, and for dessert, halo halo.
Bitter Monk Industry City
It’s the Brooklyn counterpart of Harlem’s Sugar Monk, spotlighting the group’s spirits line, Atheras Spirits. The tasting room has plenty of cocktails to try, ranging from sweet creations with allspice and coconut to classic vesper martinis. Do grab some truffle popcorn while you’re at it, too.
Seven Sins Gramercy/Murray Hill
Come here for a drink and to watch the game on one of their many TVs. It’s a classic bar, serving up trash can nachos, jumbo pretzels, and poutine with a weekday happy hour until 7 p.m.
Little Dipper Chelsea
Where to begin? Little Dipper is a trippy, astrology-themed cocktail bar that also happens to offer a 12-course omakase for groups larger than six, or one-of-a-kind bites like uni-laden tater tots and barbecued oysters for smaller parties. Make sure you know your signs before you go — cocktails are appropriately split into earth, air, fire, and water elements on the menu.
Kin Gin Lower East Side
We’ll never say no to izakaya bites, especially when they include scallop crudo, braised pig ears, and king crab legs the way they do them over at Kin Gin. Enjoy your bounty in their supremely airy space as you gaze up at the skylight windows, sipping your (you guessed it) gin cocktail.
Muteki Udon Prospect Heights
You’re here for the highly slurpable, perfectly thick udon (do get the beef steak or the vegetable and shrimp tempura bowls), but don’t overlook the other sections of the menu. The yakitori sets are ideal for a lunch on the go, and we’d never say no to yuzu sorbet.
Ushiwakamaru Pop Up at BBF New York
The intimate, eight-seat back counter at BBF is now a showcase for the Michelin-starred sushi masters from Chelsea’s now-closed Ushiwakamaru. You’ll be served 10 courses from chef Hideo Kuribara himself, plus sake and cocktails. They’re only here for a limited time, so act quickly.
BARO by Chefs Society Nomad Manhattan
If you can’t score a membership for the private, members-only back rooms, don’t worry — you can enjoy their three-course pre-fixe menu in the front with a regular Resy. It’s Korean gastropub fare, so expect to be fully satisfied with dishes like crispy tuna rice and kimbap, plus lychee martinis and caviar service.
Saint Resto-Lounge New York
Head here no matter what you’re in the mood for, whether it’s after-work drinks, bottle service, or a casual dinner. Do order the honey chicken sliders and trio of mac and cheese, if you’re dining, and a few craft cocktails, if you’re not.
Amarena Upper East Side
Named for the Italian cherry (that’s just as sweet), Amarena focuses on Roman-inspired fare — think arancini, baked clams, and super-thin pizzas, served with a chef Julian Medina (of Coppelia and Toloache) flare.
The Onion Tree Pizza Co. – NYC East Village
Come here for an only-in-New-York style of cuisine: a marriage (literally, as the two owners are married) of Italian and Indian food. Think masala margherita, saag paneer, and slow-cooked lamb pies on the menu, along with kebabs and dosa waffles.
Continent Brooklyn Williamsburg
What can’t Continent do? Blending African, Caribbean, and Asian-inspired dishes, this spot — coming to Williamsburg’s Hotel Indigo by way of a very beloved Atlanta location — is serving dishes like oxtail fried rice, Scotch bonnet fried chicken, and cocktails in gorgeous.
NoMad Diner NoMad
No surprise here, this spot is exactly what it sounds like: a proper diner. Enjoy no-frills (but impeccable) food here like burgers, shakes, and omelets, alongside next-level creations like their cornmeal pancakes, truffle chicken salad, and vegan biscuits and gravy.
Chica and the Don Gramercy Park
Salchipapas, short rib and maduro quesadillas, and octopus crudo … Need we say more? Chica and the Don is lively and colorful, with the food to match. And don’t forget a round of housemade craft shots for the table.
The Lions East Village
Mortadella sandwiches, grilled onion cheeseburgers, and all-day fried eggs and bacon — that’s The Lions for you. The spot comes from the owners of The Wayland and Goodnight Sunny, so a cocktail is in order (preferably a martini). Pro tip: Check for their rotating weekly specials, like steak dinner Wednesdays.

Only Love Strangers Lower East Side
You’re going to want to go to this bi-level cocktail bar with a superbly designed azure interior. Come for the cocktails and small bites from the MáLà Project team (think charred octopus and caviar cannolis), stay for the nightly live jazz they have downstairs.
Daphne’s Bedford-Stuyvesant
This is a bona fide neighborhood spot for fresh, housemade pastas and a curated list of natural wines by the glass in the heart of Bed-Stuy. Bonus? It comes from the owners of Decades Pizza, so you know you’re in good hands.
GOOG – Thai Cook Shop Red Hook
What used to be the Red Hook outpost of Somtum Der is now a neighborhood gem for cozy, comforting Thai dishes from the same seasoned vets behind Somtum Der and UnTable in Carroll Gardens. The menu is highly shareable, and you won’t want to miss the massaman curry with slow-braised beef or the tom yum. Pro tip: The patio dining is especially lovely when the weather is nice.
Omakase Sushi Night Bay Ridge
Take a seat at one of Omakase Sushi Night’s counter chairs and choose the number of courses you’ll be having. Then, rest easy — your work is done. What comes next is in the hands of the sushi chef, but think glistening uni, gold leaf flecks, and black truffle.
Omakase 33 Kips Bay
Come here for 11 courses of obsessively sourced Japanese fish for under $100 per person. In addition to sushi, you can expect miso soup, an appetizer, a hand roll, and dessert.
Arthur & Sons Italian American Club West Village
With Arthur & Sons, third-gen chef Joe Isidori reinvigorated and paid homage to Italian American traditions, and he does much the same at this supper club spot next door that takes the best of the old school and brings its together with what’s new. Do know that the famous chicken parm is there but you’ll also find an incredible roast beef sandwich, some Sicilian-style pizzas, and tiki-inspired cocktails, too.
Bar Primi Penn District Chelsea
This second location of Andrew Carmellini’s supremely solid and satisfying pasta shop features some of the same family recipes and handmade pastas and pizzas you’ve come to love at the original, as well as some new standouts you’ve got to try.
