New York’s Newest Restaurant Openings, Now on Resy

The energy of India’s bustling street hawker stalls makes its way to the East Village in the form of Jazba, a sister restaurant to Michelin-starred Junoon. Expect plenty of open-fire cooking with inspiration taken right from the source — several of the chefs here once worked in those stalls themselves.

It’s the food you know and love from Little Grenjai’s ghost kitchen delivery and Hampton’s pop-up, now in brick-and-mortar form. Little Grenjai is the Thai American diner with an all-day menu of noodles, burgers, and dogs that you’ll want to return to again and again.

Don’t call it a comeback. Delmonico’s has returned to FiDi in all its glory. The timeless menu, with caviar service, dover sole, and a porterhouse for two, hasn’t changed too much in the last two centuries — for good reason. Do note that this is the place where chicken à la king, lobster Newburg, and the wedge salad were invented, so order accordingly.

Fans of Fish Cheeks, rejoice! This sister restaurant has everything you love about the original, with a slightly fancier feel. Think deep banquets and a fiercely chef-driven menu that embraces Thai street food in ways that you’ve probably never seen (or tasted) before.

It’s not every day that your sushi counter is located inside what was once home to one of New York’s most beloved pizza parlors — Scarr’s — but that’s exactly what you find here at Sushi Oku. Hidden behind a curtain in the back room, it’s got all the exclusivity and only-in-New-York vibes your heart could desire. (There are only eight seats at the counter, and three seatings nightly.) Sushi Oku also boasts some of the city’s most delectable sushi, served in a 17-course omakase. Pro tip: Spring for the sake and wine pairing if you like; you won’t regret it.

From the team at La Pecora Bianca, Lupetto has all the charm of its sister restaurants plus some hot additions — literally. It’s a wood-fired Italian steakhouse that focuses on the cooking of Southern Italy, serving up dishes like Neapolitan pizzas, a 40-ounce bone-in ribeye, wood-roasted oysters with Strega hollandaise, and spaghetti al limone with Meyer lemon and Sicilian Bronte pistachios.

Note: Reservations for Lupetto will be released this week for bookings on Sept. 26 and beyond.

It’s a corner bistro in Fort Greene from powerhouse duo Gabriel Stulman and Chef April Bloomfield with elevated classics like herb-roasted chicken, veal sweetbreads, and pâté en croûte on the menu. We’re here for a glass of natural wine best enjoyed on the patio or inside the nautical-inspired dining room.

This cozy wine bar with natural-minded wines and cheffy, seasonal plates from Flynn McGarry is always a good idea, whether you simply want a glass of wine, or plan to linger for awhile with a bottle (or two). And now, in its new digs (where Gem used to be), there’s an even bigger wine list and menu to choose from — plus reservations.

Note: Gem Wine opens on Sept. 20 at 116 Forsyth, but reservations are open now. Until Sept. 16, the wine bar will continue operating out of 297 Broome Street without reservations.

Chef Shuichi Kotani has perfected his buckwheat soba noodles over two decades and now, you can try his kake-style creations (where sauce and broth are served in the same bowl as the soba) at Uzuki in Greenpoint. Noodles aren’t the only dishes that get the buckwheat treatment: There’s tofu and ice cream, too.

Hidden within the 34th Street Herald Square station, you’ll find this daring chef’s tasting counter where chef Dae Kim interweaves Korean, Chinese, Japanese, and French influences to spectacular effect. Think horsehair crab with compound butter, puffed duck feet, and gizzard shad in a sleek, black-marbled space with only 12 counter seats.

Pasta legend Missy Robbins of Lilia and Misi fame is behind this aperitivo bar and takeaway pasta shop, serving espresso, cocktails, and cicchetti like grilled artichoke sandwiches, mozzarella in carrozza, and pasta by the pound. You’ll be able to find us in their bright outdoor backyard pretty much all the time when the weather cooperates.

Meaning “uncut gems” in Chinese, Púsù is dedicated to showcasing raw, natural vegetarian dishes in their purest, most delicious form. We’re here for the fried lotus root, tri-color cold noodles, and inventive cocktails.

The brainchild of a group of veteran New York industry pros, Nemesis serves up Southeast Asian cuisine paired with a killer Japanese whisky selection. Go for the tiger shrimp shumai, seafood pad cha, and the night market noodles.

Celebrity chef Esther Choi of Iron Chef fame cooks seasonal Korean dishes like pork belly buns, tteokbokki, and a trio of kimchi at this spot that’s ideal for a meal before/after a visit to the Barclays Center.

Because 11Tigers is just plain fun — something we think the traditional omakase format could use a good dose of. From Mondays to Wednesdays, the Japanese Thai speakeasy devotes eight bar seats to a special tasting experience featuring 12- or 14-course menus with sake pairings.

It’s contemporary Mexican cuisine served in a high-ceilinged former garage from an all-star team that’s worked at spots like Aquavit, Pitis, and The Bedford. We’re here for the masa “gnocchi,” shortrib birria tacos, and popover churros.

Breeze is where the best of two great culinary traditions — Sichuanese and Shanghainese — combine to delicious effect. That means delicate crab soup dumplings, siu with salted duck egg yolk, and hearty Sichuan beef stew.

Because the name says it all — it’s all you could want from a gastropub, and much more. There’s New Orleans-inspired fare like jambalaya, barbecue prawns, and even caviar service alongside espresso, beer, and wine lists.

Because this isn’t like any other restaurant, bar, or lounge you’ve likely been to. Entrepreneur and artist Dario Oleaga is behind this sprawling, art-driven space in Washington Heights where you’ll see and hear some of the best DJs in town while feasting on Latin American bites and cocktails.

This is not your mother, or father’s tasting menu. Self-described as “chaotic,” Venhue offers a six-course menu that thumbs its nose at the establishment with thoughtful, inventive dishes and cheeky pairings: Miller High Life, anyone?

It’s a Korean chef’s counter from Taewoo Kim, who previously worked at Michelin-starred JUA. Housed inside Antoya BBQ’s mezzanine level, Wangbi is a perfect escape for those craving an elevated, beautiful tasting menu.

It’s an ultra-private fine dining experience in the basement wine room at The Warren. Think six-course chef’s tasting menus and of course, a killer bottle selection.

Fans and regulars of The Beatrice Inn, rejoice. Chef Angie Mar’s Le B., taking over the Les Trois Chevaux space on West 12th Street (look for LTC on the UES in 2024), is a loving ode to the historic, iconic restaurant which Mar helmed for a number of years, but it’s also very much its own special experience: Think crab Wellington, table-side flambéed oysters Mornay, prime rib, and a caviar-topped sturgeon Charlemagne. Pro tip: The original Beatrice Inn burger is served at the bar, with just one available per bar seat every night, so you’ll want to make that Resy, stat.

It’s a low-key and fun tapas spot right next door to its sister, Bar Belly. Think Iberico ham, patatas bravas, and a vermouth service with enough options to make you swoon.

Because there’s always something mysterious and sexy about descending the stairs into a subterranean bar. Midnight Plus One, from the team behind Charlie Bird and Pasquale Jones, sits below Bar Pasquale and boasts DJs, Italian snacks, and plenty of craft cocktails until “late.”
