Major League Baseball’s Most Restaurant-Obsessed Player Shares His Top Meals of All Time

By

Every Major League Baseball team plays (at least) 162 games each season and, if you’re the New York Mets’ Mark Canha, chances are you’re eating out — and eating well — for as many of those days as possible.

Over the years, the Mets outfielder has developed a reputation for himself as the league’s most restaurant-obsessed player — and he’s got the food-laden Instagram profile to prove it.

In between practices and when he’s not spending time with his wife, Marci, and their two daughters, he’s likely researching where he should eat next, whether he’s dining solo, with the teammates, or with his family.

The San Jose, Calif. native grew up in the Bay Area, and was a longtime player for the Oakland A’s before joining the Mets this year. He started posting photos of his meals in the winter of 2014 while he was still a rookie and hasn’t stopped since. One day, he hopes to compile all of the posts into a coffee table book.

Until then, we decided to ask him for his definitive rankings of his most memorable restaurant meals across the country, in all of the cities where he’s lived and played, from Oakland to New York. It’s a long list, and it’s definitely heavy on Bay Area, where he grew up — and particularly in San Francisco, where he and the family lived for four years before moving to Arizona in 2018. Nowadays, they call New York home. He hopes it’ll inspire others to remember — and make — their own favorite restaurant meals and memories, too.

“Food’s a personal thing for everybody. Just because I love a restaurant, doesn’t mean you’re going to love it, too — you just have to be honest with yourself, and what you love.”

And with that, here’s a list of his most memorable meals to date.
