As Los Angeles begins to move into the temperate days of fall, we’re looking forward to getting back into routines that don’t threaten to shut down our (internal or external) power grids. This includes the pursuit of the best and brightest dining has to offer, without the worry of showing up in need of a fresh shirt.

There is a certainly a considerable smattering of restaurants to choose from as Q4 business dinners pepper our calendars and we squeeze in some facetime with friends before our post-vacation glows become a memory. As means to help guide your selections, let us present you with some of the new bright spots added to Global Dining Access by Resy, which provides exclusive access and opportunities for American Express premium card members.

This latest roundup celebrates ocean-adjacency at destination rooftops (Élephante) and tiki bar havens (Belles Beach House); as well as the art of sharing a plate (Ronan) and neighborhood hangouts (Lasita). This prime piece of sunset-snapping real estate is the type of spot that always feels like vacation. Brought to life by restaurateur Nick Mathers and the aptly named Wish You Were Here Group, you’re guaranteed to leave feeling like you just spent an afternoon or evening in a coastal Italian travel documentary. Call it a placebo effect, call it an expertly bottled version of a place we’d always rather be, Élephante offers a bevy of options to sip and share.

The Vibe

The Southern Mediterranean as seen through Southern California-tinted glasses.

Can’t Miss

A celebratory whipped eggplant starter is in order before choosing which pasta you’ll be twirling against an ocean backdrop. Ponder the dramatic squid ink pasta with Dungeness crab and tomato butter or the fusilli with pesto and pistachio breadcrumb.

West Hollywood

Those who can’t do, teach. And those who can’t decide? Well, they share. Ronan is a family owned respite for indecisive eaters with decisively good taste. The West Hollywood pizzeria (its default category, if not its only one) presents one of the best patios around for enjoying a selection of Neapolitan pies, or plenty of seasonal plates to split.

The Vibe

Cozy and understated, while leaving a lasting impression.

Can’t Miss

The bubbly crusts and chewy doughs present perfect canvases for anything on the pizza menu. If you’re in the mood for an exciting take on the Neapolitan classic, choose the white pie with house guanciale, ricotta, and “Pepe honey.” The burrata with basil oil and pine nuts prove this starter still has legs.

Keep your eyes peeled for little treats to make Mondays more interesting at Ronan. For example, the Parmboyz recently rolled through for a one-night pop up (and it looks like they’ll be back next month).

Alta Adams

Adams Blvd

With a menu that melds memories of Southern soul food with the abundance of local California produce, chefs Keith Corbin and Daniel Patterson give the historic West Adams neighborhood a reason to get some friends on the phone and head out. Here, you’ll enjoy comfort food classics that are delightfully light on their feet, prepared by a team that feels like family.

The Vibe

A lively spot that wears its soul on its sleeve, in the best way. 

Can’t Miss

Rally a dining companion or two and spring for the combo plates starring the house smoked brisket with Alta’s barbecue sauce or the fried smoked tofu with spicy tartar sauce. These unlock access to more sides for sampling — you might want to double up on the candied yams and pecans.

Pop by the Alta wine shop next door Tuesday through Sunday to browse the boutique specializing in wine produced by women and producers of color — a treasure trove of variety and value.

Roberta’s – Culver City

Culver City

Gone are the days of New Yorkers whispering about perfectly wood-fired pizza crusts devised in a Brooklyn warehouse. Roberta’s has caught the attention of the nation and frankly, the more physical locations, the better society will be. Once you experience the craft in the flesh, it’ll take its rightful place at the top of your stack-rankings.

The Vibe

A welcome and colorful Brooklyn transplant.

Can’t Miss

Purists will simply point to the margherita pie.

Roberta’s can now become a part of every Studio City-goer’s upscale retail experience. The expansion pushes onwards with a recent emergence at the Shops at Sportsmen’s Lodge.

Cobi’s

Santa Monica

Cobi’s is a showcase of some of the best street food South Asia has to offer. Chefs Cobi Marsh and Lance Mueller pull influence from Thai, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Indian (and more!) cultures. The Santa Monica restaurant takes the torch from the previous owners of 50-year stronghold Dhaba’s, who were forced to close during the pandemic. Perhaps it’s their blessing that’s stewarded a seamless transition into Cobi’s popular residency.

The Vibe

A vibrant, eclectic burst of colors and flavors (and floral arrangements).

Can’t Miss

There are no loose ends on this compact menu. Pop a couple of curry puffs from the snack section and let your heart choose one of the infamous curries (butter chicken, anyone?) If you’re up for it, tack on a large-format option like the dry-aged branzino. Mixing and matching is part of the vision.

There’s a robust (and exciting) natural wine program going on at Cobi’s and if you find something you like, there’s a 40% discount to take it with you.

Lasita

Chinatown

After taking one on the chin during COVID and being forced to close the original Lasa, former chef de cuisine Nico de Leon and owner Chase Valencia prove that taking a step backwards can make the next chapter even more explosive. Lasita is much more casual interpretation of Filipino cuisine — think lively conversations while picking at a rotisserie chicken. The Chinatown hang-spot just celebrated its one-year birthday.

The Vibe

Chill (relatively) and fun. A place that invites you to stick around for a while. 

Can’t Miss

The simple menu mantra of “Brine, Stuff, Slow Roast” gives way to delectable chicken inasal or the pork belly lechon. Add a side of garlic fried rice and you’re golden. Don’t forget the extra sauces.

By the Way

Your best bet for sampling everything Lasita has to offer is to bring an army. Parties of eight to 10 can explore the full menu via a multi-course “Pamilya-Style” set menu intended for a crowd.

Belles Beach House

Venice Beach

Serving as another Venice installment from the Wish You Were Here group, Belles Beach House sets its sights on a different beach, in a different decade. Here you can kick back into a rattan chair and toast the art of the tiki bar and veteran Venetian artist Larry Bell, while enjoying the fresh flavors of Hawaiian izakaya cuisine.

The Vibe

A distant island tiki bar airdropped from the ’70s.

Can’t Miss

The Kobe beef teriyaki cheeseburger is serious business and can last longer if you punctuate bites with sips from one of the excellent craft tiki cocktails.

Belles endorses the Hawaiian concept of pau hana, a part of the day that literally means “done work” with a Golden Hour menu designed for the those ready to cut out a little early.

Gucci Osteria da Massimo Bottura

Beverly Hills

Perched atop the third floor of Gucci’s Beverly Hills retail space sits Osteria da Massimo Battura, a merging of the artistic minds. When these minds are chef Battura and the House of Gucci, you know you’re in for something special. With each course, chef Mattia Agazzi channels Battura’s vision into an Italian-inspired tasting menu with a sense of creativity that draws diners in for a closer look.

The Vibe

An exquisite, Florence-inspired intersection of talents.

Can’t Miss

Choose from the five-, seven-, or the top-tiered eight-course tasting menu and bask in simplistic, creative feats like the “Risotto Camouflaged as Pizza” or the “Cod as Milanese.”

No detail is overlooked here — from the Italian mosaic floors to the outdoor bar constructed from an antique wooden pulpit.
