The January Hit List: Rich Table, Shawarmaji, Del Popolo, Prubechu, and More

Rich Table is offering a weekly changing four-course chef’s menu, available for pickup and delivery. It’s always a surprise, with past items like pork chop parmigiana and an aged duck tikka masala. Prubechu was named one of Esquire’s Best New Restaurants in America in 2020; if you don’t already know why, now is a good time to find out. Large plates of Chamorro barbecue with pork ribs, brisket and chicken with red rice; iceberg wedge with wasabi ranch; crunchy nori shrimp; and whole fried fish are just some of the routes you can go. The Morris delivers, literally and figuratively. Mohammad Abutaha, former cook at Reem’s and sous at Noosh, has ventured out on his own with Shawarmaji in Oakland. You’ll find massive spits with lamb and chicken that are thinly cut. Chef Elie Kopia, who used to cook at Bissap Baobab, has gone off on his own with his West African catering company, Kopia Delices. He’s delivering large, homestyle plates of smoked chicken on jollof rice, grilled fish with fried plantains and cabbage salad, grilled lamb with stir fried black beans and rice, and more. Half the fun of San Francisco’s meat mecca, House of Prime Rib, is the experience in that epic dining room. Ismael Macias and Adrian Hoffman used to cook in local restaurants for years before starting Four Star Seafood, distributing seafood to restaurants all around the Bay Area.
