Rintaro might not be the first place that comes to mind for drinks, but they do an otherworldly housemade umeshu, a Japanese liqueur made from ume plums. Elda, the 16th Street bar with a Latin soul offers any of their cocktails to go in duos or quartets – perfect pandemic sizes really. Consider the Hot Stepper, made with 101 Proof rye, lemon, grapefruit, a housemade hot honey syrup, and an IPA floater; it sounds like a lot, but as they say, this baby sings. One of our favorite things to do during regular times was to grab a seat at the bar at Mister Jiu’s and order a couple small snacks – Dutch crunch pork buns and  shrimp toast are favorites — and some carefully crafted cocktails before starting the meal proper inside their beautifully lit dining room. And though you can’t dine in, you can do the same for takeout. There’s nothing quite like sitting at the wooden bar at Buena Vista Café and watching Irish coffees being carefully concocted  by bartenders in black ties and white suits—it’s very special, it’s very San Francisco. Granted you can’t sit at the bar, but you can do takeout and make an urban hike through the fog-filled hilly streets that much more enjoyable. Let’s say you’re a brunch person, then you’re probably a mimosa and a michelada person, too.
