Melisse x Citrin, Antico, Guerilla Tacos, and More: Introducing The Resy At Home Hit List

Meet Melisse X Citrin. The latest version of Josiah Citrin’s venerable Santa Monica restaurant was barely opened long enough before the stay-in-place orders landed. But with his new take-home prix fixe menus, it’s like the chef is cooking for you at home. New menus are released every week and available for pickup on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings. A recent one featured market greens with shaved vegetables tossed in truffle vinaigrette; the famous capellini with lobster Bolognese; and a duo of beef cheeks and filet mignon with potato puree. If you have video games at home, all you really need is Button Mash food to make it feel like the Echo Park barcade. The new Super Home Edition weekly changing menus have just rolled out, with things like Malaysian fried chicken, milk buns, charred broccoli, and tamarind cheesecake. Chad Colby’s rustic Italian spot flipped to doing pizza and ice cream seven days a week. The menu is ultra-limited with a Caesar salad, a smattering of focaccia-style pizzas, and great wines to pair with everything. Pints of hand-spun ice cream — quite frankly, some of the best restaurant ice cream in town — are also available, and the seasonal strawberry, now on offer, is life-changing. The iconic Fairfax restaurant known for its New York-style Chinese food and great cocktails has both on offer for takeout — everything from noodles and dumplings to bottled lychee martinis, Szechuan margaritas and old-school mai tais. One of Santa Monica’s best restaurants reopens for curbside pickup on May 6 (ordering opens on May 5). The multi-course menus feed two, four or six people, with the option to add beer, wine and cocktails; they must be ordered ahead of time. Things change daily so check back regularly, but expect dishes like lavender almonds and marinated olives; market lettuces with crispy radishes; flatiron steak with Taleggio and roasted tomatoes; and chocolate budino. The Sherman Oaks stalwart offers great sushi platters and hand roll kits for curbside pickup or delivery within 10 miles. The menu, which is far from basic, includes 20 pieces of quality sushi and rolls, and hand-roll kits come in three versions, including one vegan. Although Jon Shook and Vinny Dotolo’s sibling restaurant Jon & Vinny’s has been doing takeout for a while, the duo’s West Third Street seafood shack only recently came online with its famous fried chicken sandwich, peel-and-eat shrimp, country ham with hush puppies, and cocktails like the classic greyhound that serves eight. The throwback steakhouse is doing serious throwback takeout “TV dinners,” complete with compartmentalized foil trays that go right into the oven. Think: steak au poivre with potato puree and peas and carrots, vegetable lasagna with creamed spinach and creamed corn, and chicken parmesan with spaghetti marinara.
