South Florida’s Nominees For James Beard Awards in 2024

This year’s James Beard Foundation Awards class of semifinalists in Miami and throughout South Florida reflects the area’s coming of age as a culinary powerhouse. The nominees include a self-taught baker in the Outstanding Baker category, one of Miami’s most talked-about restaurants of the year, and much more.

Finalists will be announced in April, and awards handed out June 10 in Chicago. The local restaurants available to book on Resy are highlighted below; find the full national list here on the Beard Foundation website.

Serious pasta lovers know this is the place for some of the city’s best handmade bucatini, tagliolini, spaghetti, and much more, and they’ve been returning in droves since 2012 for chef-owner Michael Pirolo’s bold takes on rustic Italian cooking. And we’re so glad that the restaurant’s beverage team has been acknowledged for all the thought and expertise they put into the wine program.

As Valerie Chang’s first solo act, Maty’s arguably became Miami’s most talked-about restaurant of the year — for good reason. While you can certainly expect some of the expertly executed Nikkei-style ceviches and tiraditos the Chang Gang was known for at Itamae, Maty’s expands on the family’s culinary traditions with deeply comforting, yet finessed Peruvian plates that are rooted in the recipes Val’s grandmother taught her — you can taste the love and tradition that’s layered into every dish.

Chef Henry Moso is in full domain of Kabooki Sushi’s marble bar. Here, the Laos-born chef puts a brilliant spin on sushi and the omakase genre, resulting in outstanding creations like foie gras nigiri with shallot jam and unagi foam, along more purist offerings, like an impeccable bluefin tasting.
