New on Resy: The Chastain, Ms. Icey’s Kitchen & Bar, West Egg Café, and More

The minute you step through the doors here, you’ll forget you’re actually in a North Decatur strip mall. Nostalgia is the overall vibe, where the food is decidedly Southern-meets-Caribbean. Brunch is the star, with the saltfish mangu, jerk lamb and eggs, and skillet cornbread topped with bourbon praline butter among the many standouts. 

Fine dining without pretension defines The Chastain. It’s easy to mistake this park-side locale for a restaurant in Napa with its large windows, on-site garden, and multiple patios with fire pits. There’s even a thoughtful wine program with a deep list to match. Executive chef Christopher Grossman lets seasonal produce shine, and pastry chef Christian Castillo knows good meals start with house-baked sourdough and end with desserts that go beyond the ordinary. 

Set in a former train depot, Golden Eagle’s glamorous dining room looks like it was taken directly from the set  of “Mad Men.” Cocktails like the Flannel Blazer — made with bourbon, Suze, honey, and lemon — reign supreme here. The menu offerings are equally timeless, like a classic wedge salad and bucatini carbonara. This winter, Golden Eagle is temporarily converting into Sippin’ Santa, replete with holiday kitsch. 

Think swanky living room with a well-stocked bar and you’ll have Parlor, a speakeasy in Castleberry Hill. The confines are inviting and the cocktails are expertly crafted. Live music throughout the week keeps the good times going late into the evening.

West Egg has been one of Atlanta’s de facto brunch spots since 2004 for a reason. Combinations like banana bread French toast and churro waffles are more than just eye candy. It’s hard to find a restaurant that takes its coffee program as seriously as its food, but West Egg delivers on that front, too. Here, baristas skillfully brew Batdorf & Bronson beans (roasted just down the street) and whip up seasonally inspired espresso drinks that go beyond the PSL.

Downtown needed a swanky hangout space where people can unwind with cigars and a stiff cocktail, and Cam Newton and his brother Cecil Newton Jr. have delivered. On Sundays, they offer their one-of-a-kind Jazz & Juice brunch. Fellaship also happens to be near the Mercedes-Benz Stadium should you need a pre- or post-game respite. 

The locale of this Inman Park mainstay is an historic building, but there’s nothing old school about chef-owner Jason Hill’s approach to Southern food. Dishes like lobster arancini and Georgia shrimp and grits will have you coming back for more. Save room for a slice of that carrot cake. Note: Reservations are now open for dining beginning on Dec. 2.

Did we mention the beer? There are more than 70 on tap, and the selection changes often. We expect nothing less from owner Kraig Torres, who also owns popular beer and wine shop Hop City. Good beer is nothing without good food to match, and chef Brian Carson stacked his menu with well-executed pub grub. 

Everything, from the grilled za’taar wings and the kashk bademjoon (fried eggplant spread), to the adas polo (a blend of basmati rice, lentils, raisins, and saffron topped with a crispy tahdig), is lovingly prepared at Delbar. That same attention to flavor is found on the drinks list. Trust us and try the Shiraz 75, an effervescent blend of lime-infused gin, Lillet, honey, lemon, and sparkling wine. A sunny dining room and beachy patio makes the experience all the more enjoyable.

Because this is the closest thing to a tropical getaway within city limits. Apt 4B is where Caribbean ingredients meet French techniques. This Buckhead hideaway is small, but the flavors are outsize, thanks to chef Dayana Joseph. You can’t go wrong with anything on her menu, especially the cracked conch in a Scotch bonnet pepper emulsion, or the tamarind-glazed short ribs. Save room for the passion fruit creme brûlée. Art lovers will especially appreciate the line designs around the bar created by Atlanta-based artist Antonio McIlwaine.

From The Earth is a sweet suburban surprise. There are 10 house-brewed options on tap, including seasonal delights like a pumpkin spice ale and cider. Meanwhile, the kitchen takes bar food up a notch with mouthwatering, locally sourced options like fried mushrooms with horseradish aioli and a Reuben sandwich made with brown ale-braised corned beef. 

It’s no secret that this Brookhaven restaurant is the place to go for Southern food in a modern setting. Here, the classics get surprising twists, like strawberry jam on fried green tomatoes stuffed with pimento jam, or meatloaf in a chipotle honey glaze. Don’t overlook the cocktail or dessert menus, either.
