The 10 Restaurants That Defined London Dining in 2023
We asked our contributors to the Resy Hit List to share their top dining experiences in their cities this year — 10 restaurants that are helping to define the state of great dining right now. Please welcome back our Best of The Hit List for 2023. (You can find other cities’ top picks here.)
Time flies when you’re eating well — speaking of, how are we at the end of the year already? London’s diverse and delicious restaurant scene makes dining out a joy, and this year has especially shown us that restaurants can be very personal places for the chefs behind them, providing a space to share their unique stories, backgrounds, and worldviews through their dishes and menus.
We’ve had very personal takes on diasporic cuisines with Rambutan and regional elan at Chishuru, and restaurants that centre universal truths in hospitality — great ingredients treated well, respect for customers and staff, and a commitment to conviviality — flourish within a scene that has kept those values intact, in spite of everything thrown at it. There were residencies that gave an edge to London dining (hello, Oranj and 180 Corner), those championing simplicity and comfort (who hasn’t loved Tiella and Polentina?), a return to London’s Francophile tendencies (if you could snag a table at Bouchon Racine, good for you), and the return of the megawatt hotel restaurant. And that isn’t even counting late arrivals like Donia and Sune, which promise to electrify their respective audiences.
These are 10 restaurants that provided the most memorable meals of 2023, and helped define how we dine right now, in this special year-end edition of the Hit List.
