Where to Find the Most Memorable Burgers in D.C.

By

Everyone has an opinion about the best burger, especially those in the heart of burger-obsessed D.C.

Some cheer for the portable star at Arlington-founded Five Guys, rowdy sports pubs along U Street, and taverns from Georgetown to Brookland. Others want nothing more than a classic cheeseburger with a crispy potato bun and juicy patty, which happens to be the move at Unconventional Diner. Then there are fans of newer burgers — mouths that water over premium wagyu meats, fancy squid ink buns (we see you, The Runaway), and unexpected toppings such as bacon XO jam and Hatch chile relish (Lucky Buns is on the case). And don’t get us started on D.C.’s incredible plant-based burger scene (’cause we will tell you all about it), which delivers flavor-packed bean burgers and creative plant-based proteins.

Whatever the mood or season, the insatiable craving for a good, old-fashioned burger marches on. Thankfully, you’ll have no trouble finding a fix in the DMV. Whether you prefer a traditional cheeseburger or a patty with an endless parade of toppings, there’s plenty to seek out and sample. Here are 11 of our favorites.
