The Incredible Stories of 25 Historic Restaurants Across America

By

The Chinese restaurant founded by a Titanic survivor.

The family-run Mexican restaurant outside L.A. whose hard shell tacos paved the way for a taco chain you might know.

The D.C. restaurant honoring the Black watermen of the 19th century.

The irreplaceable Art Deco gas station on Route 66 that once fed Elvis before falling into disrepair.

Here at Resy, we believe that America’s history can be told through its classic restaurants, and that’s why we’re proud to announce the recipients of the Backing Historic Small Restaurants grant program. For the third year in a row, and in partnership with the National Trust for Historic Preservation, American Express is honoring 25 historic restaurants across the country, each which will receive a $40,000 grant – collectively $1 million in funding – to help them improve the business’ physical space, support critical operating costs, with the goal of helping these restaurants make an even larger positive impact in their communities. (See last year’s honorees here.)
