After the most unusual two years, the annual James Beard Awards are back to their regular schedule of nominations, which means it’s time to check in on your local favorites among the newly announced semifinalists.
This year’s class in the D.C. area should contain few surprises, if you’ve been paying attention. It includes one of the District’s most-lauded restaurateurs; unique Korean cooking that’s among the country’s best; exceptional Italian and wood-fired Middle Eastern; and much more. And that doesn’t even include other outstanding nominees a bit further afield, namely in Baltimore, where you’ll find Carlos Raba of Clavel Mezcaleria nominated for Best Chef: Mid Atlantic; and Cindy Wolf of Charleston nominated for Outstanding Chef.
Finalists will be announced in March, and awards handed out June 13 in Chicago. The local Resy restaurants that made the cut are listed below; find the full national list here on the Beard Foundation website.
