New on Resy: The Django, Talea Beer Co., L’Amico, and More

In the warmer months, the space transforms into an ideal setting for lobster rolls and ice-cold beer with a quintessential summer-in-the-city vibe.

A Left Bank atmosphere, non-stop big-name jazz on stage, an oysters-to-burgers menu, vivid music-themed cocktails (definitely order yourself an Herbal Hancock) … all that to say, who wouldn’t want to descend into the cellar of the Roxy Hotel for an evening at The Django?

On the second floor of the Freehand hotel, you’ll find this stunning, intimate bar where the cocktails flow freely and you feel like you’ve been transported to the American Southwest. (The adjoining lounge space is appropriately named the Georgia Room, after New Mexico’s very own Georgia O’Keefe, whose paintings inspired the name of Bar Calico, too.) Pro tip: Don’t sleep on The Black Iris, a gin-based staff favorite, or the Snapdragon, which has grapefruit and mango juice.

The dream team behind West Village favorites Via Carota, Buvette, and I Sodi — Jody Williams and Rita Sodi — are behind this new all-American tavern. The decor is Shaker-inspired, with austere but meticulously crafted furnishings, and the cuisine draws on 19th-century Yankee cookbooks.

Expect exquisitely crafted sushi and other omakase specialties at this cutting-edge Tribeca destination restaurant — a collaboration between Masa Ito, Kevin Kim, and VCR Group.

If you love fruit-forward, easy-drinking beers — especially sours — you’re in for a real treat at this airy, light-filled taproom and brewery helmed by Tara Hankinson and LeAnn Darland.

Chef Victoria Blamey (Gotham Bar & Grill, Chumley’s) is at the helm of this new Tribeca restaurant located on one of the city’s most famous alleyways. Mena, named for Blamey’s great-aunt, is a showcase for the Chilean-born chef’s globally inspired cooking, which draws from Chile, Spain, Australia, and New York.

Always charming and always reliable, La Pecora Bianca is a perfect for lovely lunching and dining any time of day, especially with a menu that includes Italian classics with a contemporary twist.

Chefs Jay Kumar and John Kim have teamed up for this neighborhood restaurant that features a menu with diverse and eclectic influences. Think crispy dosas and smoked steelhead trout alongside wild mushroom ragout with a buckwheat spaetzle and cashew baklava.

Here’s one that might be easily missed: Matsunori is a modest little jewel of a place on the Lower East Side with a 10-seat counter and a refined 14-course omakase menu for less than a steak dinner uptown. Pro tip: It’s B.Y.O.S. — bring your own sake.

Upper East Side sushi lovers mourned when Oita closed in early pandemic days, but proprietors Andy Bae and Eugene Lee brought their dazzling omakase menus (including kosher variations), temaki hand rolls, and occasional Korean specialties to Park Slope, and Brooklyn couldn’t be happier.

When the original Ten Bells opened on the Lower East Side in 2008, it was, perhaps, the first natural wine bar, well, probably anywhere in town. This atmospheric Bushwick offshoot keeps the faith with an array of organic or biodynamic vintages and a wine-friendly menu of tapas, cured meats, tinned Spanish seafood, and cheeses.

If you’re in the mood for a retreat with a laid-back Aussie vibe (brekky panna cotta, anyone?), this is the place. Everything, from the salads and sandwiches to the all-day breakfast dishes and coffee, are super fresh; the meats come from the owner’s upstate farm, too.

You’ll feel like you’re in the coolest bar in Tel Aviv when you step inside this intimate spot in the Skyline Hotel, where the cocktails glow with flavors like pomegranate, blood orange, and olive leaf, and the short menu of bar snacks includes pita pizzas and homemade bagels with za’atar.

You might be in Astoria, but when you’re here, you’ll feel like you’re in Oz. The Thirsty Koala is Australian through and through, from the indigenous Australian ingredients that feature heavily on the menu (lemon myrtle, wattle seed, desert oak, and akudjura among them) to the warm and friendly atmosphere. You’ll want everything on the ample menu at this colorful modern Mexican neighborhood favorite from the proprietors of Bogota Latin Bistro, located just across the street. Gluten-free and vegan specialties (green goddess tacos!) abound.

Come hungry to this raucously colorful Park Slope favorite and fill your table with Colombian-leaning Latin specialties — empanadas, arepas, Bogota tacos, plantain-crusted chicken, and much more.

“Lobster bar” is a more-than-apt description for this spot from chef Ed McFarland. There are lobster nachos, lobster poutine, lobster ravioli, lobster ramen, lobster ravioli, and of course, lobster bisque, and whole steamed lobster — and a lobster roll where the crustacean outweighs the roll by about 10-to-one.

A century-old classic — a Little Italy institution — that’s been deliciously reborn. Come for everything from spaghetti carbonara and seafood Fra Diavolo to chicken Parmigiana.

It’s an alluring Jazz Age-themed bar where the cocktails are extravagant (don’t miss the Bootlegger Old Fashioned, complete with brandied cherry), the music plays live nightly, and the food is just plain fun (jambalaya kebabs and crackling pork shank, among the delicious choices).
