This Mexican restaurant’s tiny kitchen cranks out addictive plates of Oaxacan queso fondues and tacos, painstakingly made using traditional methods. Excellent guacamole, elotes (grilled sweetcorn) and build-your-own taco kits pair perfectly to ice-cold Tecates and pre-made margaritas that require simply pouring. During lockdown 2.0, this busy café has switched from serving its legendary Jewish diner staples to weekly-changing family dinners that depend on whatever takes the chefs’ mood. Offerings have ranged from hearty French cassoulet to a classic Thai-style khao soi or a za’atar spiced whole roast chicken with sides.
