New on Resy: Sarashina Horii, Yellow Rose, Saint Theo’s, and More

Chef Austin Johnson, a veteran of Eleven Madison Park and Paris’ Frenchie, gives a whole new meaning to “farm to table.” Here, the tables are filled with produce from this vegetable-forward restaurant’s own farm in upstate New York, and Johnson decides what gets planted — including even the hops for the housemade beer.

If you remember kaiseki star Chikara Sono, formerly of Michelin-starred Kyo Ya, you’ll be in a hurry to try his Japanese bar food with sophisticated twists and European accents at this light and breezy tavern. (Where else will you find shrimp mousse spring rolls?) An eight-seat omakase counter joins BBF in the fall.

In a city jam-packed with Italian restaurants, chef Ashley Rath — who has cooked everywhere from LaLou to The Grill — expresses her own take on this beloved cuisine at this charming West Village trattoria. Cicchetti (Venetian “tapas”) are featured, the spaghettini comes with cherry tomatoes, and the star entree is a not-at-all-Italian (but impeccably cooked) Dover sole.

If you like art and food, you definitely won’t want to miss The Gallery, recently opened in Flatiron. Here, chef Hiroki Odo devotes part of his space to showcasing contemporary art and photography and the rest to crafting traditional and innovative sushi and sashimi creations like a maguro tasting offering three kinds of premium tuna.

One of Japan’s oldest soba parlors, which originally opened in 1879, has finally found its way to New York, and these silky buckwheat noodles are well worth the wait. What makes Sarashina Horii’s soba so special is the milling process — they use only the innermost part of the buckwheat grain to produce the signature white soba, aka “sarashina.” Pro tip: Pair your soba with some expertly fried, crisp tempura.

The city’s purveyor of Rome’s favorite street snack has returned to the Lower East Side with new cocktails, an enviable patio, those fluffiest of pizza pocket sandwiches, and now, pasta. Pro tip: Don’t overlook the trapizzini with oxtail, or the Doppia Panna, with Cantabrian anchovies.

Come for the revelatory bean-and-cheese tacos, made with housemade flour tortillas, stay for the buttermilk brioche donuts dipped in chocolate or hominy-sugar (weekends only), frozen margaritas, and vegan queso and chips — or well, nearly everything on the menu at this buzzy Tex-Mex spot in the East Village.

Your one-way ticket to noodle heaven lies at this stunning slurp shop, where chef Chao Wang cures homesickness with the delightful mifen rice noodles of his hometown.

You’ll want to put this rustic-elegant trattoria on your Resy Hit List for Italian fare that upends the clichés. Think pizza with red tomato pesto, fior di latte mozzarella, and red onion, or bucatini pasta with Sun Gold tomatoes, oyster mushrooms, guanciale, and a cured egg yolk — not to mention grapefruit-Campari ice cream for dessert.

If you liked the original Barn Joo near Union Square, you’ll love the (slightly) uptown NoMad offshoot of this Korean bar and restaurant. The menu dances effortlessly from Korean tacos to sizzling rice bowls, and you won’t want to miss the unique soju cocktails — including a combo flight of four different ones at once.

The tortillas are made in-house at this Mexico City-inspired bar and restaurant in Brooklyn, a perfect canvas for the crispy smoked tuna tacos. Better yet, the mezcal flows freely nightly until 2 a.m.

“Convivial” is a good word for this bright, friendly, unpretentious but stylish Italian place — Manhattan’s newest and fourth Pecora Bianca (“White Sheep”). Come for the zucchini fries and the rigatoni with vodka sauce, stay for the eminently shareable tiramisù.

David Lowenstein of Pickler & Co. serves charbroiled oysters, fish and chips, and more at his jaunty East Village spot, but it might be his nod to county fair food that keeps you coming back. Say hello to the best corn dog you’ve ever had — a plump link of Louisiana-style andouille sausage in a buttermilk-cornmeal batter with pepper jelly, mustard sauce, and (what else?) pickles on the side.

Book-lined walls, vintage lighting, and library-style tables suggest an academic setting, and no wonder: Anything at All is the dining room of the Graduate Hotel on Cornell Tech’s Roosevelt Island campus. Restaurateurs Med Abrous and Marc Rose of L.A.’s Winsome and Genghis Cohen are in charge, and chef Ja’Toria Harper oversees the seafood-focused menu.

A good steakhouse will never let you down, and since its entry into the crowded Manhattan carnivore scene about a decade ago, Benjamin has taken its place with the best of them. Ordering one of the steaks, dry-aged in-house, is a no-brainer — but regulars know to get the cream-less cream spinach and the bleu cheese home fries, too.

You can’t keep a good diner down. This Chelsea favorite, originally opened in 1946, has been through closings and reopenings, name changes, and an assortment of chefs and proprietors. Today, it’s stronger than ever with Jestin Feggan (formerly of Cafeteria) in charge of the kitchen, serving diner classics along with up-to-the-minute fare like melon gazpacho with lump crabmeat and and cacio e pepe risotto.

There’s plenty of spice if you want it at this sleek Upper West Side noodle house (the dan dan noodles earn a three-chile-pepper rating), an outpost of the East Village original, opened by the scion of a Beijing restaurant family. But don’t miss Tang’s herbal chicken noodle soup, simmered for six hours with Chinese medicinal herbs.

Brightly flavored Greek cooking meets a West Village sensibility (brick walls, hardwood floors, tin ceilings, bare tables) at this cozy neighborhood taverna. Pro tip: Don’t miss the lunchtime lamb burger with house-smoked feta and Cypriot potatoes.

Come hungry to this 67-year-old Manhattan institution with its antiques-shop-meets-ice-cream-parlor decor, just like Marilyn Monroe and Jackie Kennedy used to. Hearty burgers, sandwiches, mac ‘n’ cheese variations, and other crowd-pleasers fill the colorful menu, but desserts are the thing to get; it might actually be against the law to leave without sampling the trademark Frrrozen Hot Chocolate.

Step inside this Upper West Side winner and you’ll be transported 8,500 miles or so to an elegant corner of Thailand, with intricate hardwood paneling, golden filigree chandeliers, and wraparound murals of scenes from Thai mythology. Exceptional seafood dishes like a red curry squid and a green peppercorn sole join a full range of Thai specialties on the expansive menu.
