Takeout Tuesday for Two Meals from top restaurants, and Celebrity-Curated Takeout Packages Help Drive Support for Small Restaurants

NEW YORK, NY — February 16, 2021: American Express and Resy recently announced Order In, Help Out, a national campaign to support independent restaurants around the US that continue to feel the devastating impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on their businesses. The campaign’s message is simple: takeout to help out the restaurants you love.

Takeout has become more important than ever to restaurants’ survival, and the time to support them is now. According to the American Express Independent Restaurant Insight Study, more than half of restaurant owners in the U.S. are seriously considering closing for good because of the pandemic. To inspire consumers to purchase takeout from independent restaurants – and make takeout a weekly occurrence to look forward to – the companies are rallying around #TakeoutTuesday, since Resy data shows Tuesdays are historically one of the slowest days of the week for restaurants.

For four consecutive #TakeoutTuesdays starting on February 23, Resy.com/Takeout will serve as a hub of inspiration filled with restaurant owner profiles, guides, hit lists, and maps, like Where Chefs Get Takeout in NYC.

Takeout Tuesday for Two Meals:

Resy has also partnered with restaurants across the country to create multi-course takeout packages for two, filled with the restaurants’ most popular dishes, exclusive items and more. Resy-curated “Takeout Tuesday for Two” packages are available for purchase beginning Tuesday, February 16th, for pickup* on Tuesday, February 23, March 2, March 9 and March 16. Participating restaurants include Albi (DC), Anju (DC), Cafe Sushi (BOS), Di An Di (NYC), Don Angie (NYC), Fox & The Knife (BOS), Galit (CHI), Han Oak (PDX), KOKOMO (NYC), Little Nonna’s (PHL), Mercy Me (DC), Moody Tongue Brewery (CHI), Nari (SF), Pasjoli (LA), Pastis (NYC), Son Of A Gun (LA), Spicy Moon, East Village location (NYC), Suraya (PHL), Tzuco (CHI). *Packages may also be available for delivery, at the restaurants’ discretion.

Celebrity-Curated Takeout Orders:

Restaurant-loving celebs and tastemakers are behind the effort to support independent restaurants through takeout orders, too. Christina Tosi, Daphne Oz, Eric Wareheim, Justin Theroux, Katie Couric, Kwame Onwuachi and Phil Rosenthal shared their regular orders at favorite local spots with Resy, and their dish picks can be purchased via Resy – as bundled packages – for pickup each #TakeoutTuesday. Why Takeout Matters Now, More Than Ever

Takeout has become a last lifeline for restaurants across the US as indoor dining remains restricted in many places and winter weather limits outdoor dining. According to the American Express Independent Restaurant Insight Study, 89% of small, independent restaurant owners say they depend on takeout orders to stay afloat. The same study also estimated that the simple act of ordering takeout can generate, on average, more than $700 million in daily sales for the industry[1]. In other words, for restaurants across the country, takeout isn’t just another revenue stream — it’s essential.

“I was reluctant to do takeout at first because I wanted people to get the full experience of dining in our restaurant, listening to blues, and being in a space that evokes Memphis, the food of my childhood, and how I grew up,” says Gregory Collier, Chef-Owner of Leah & Louise in Charlotte, NC, recently named to Esquire’s best new restaurants list. “But then I realized that even though it’s not the whole experience, people can still get the food and it’ll resonate with them — and takeout now accounts for nearly 40% of our revenue.”
