Danny Meyer Pays Tribute to Sparks Steak House, Nina Compton Teams Up with Dooky Chase, Brandon Jew and Zuni Cafe Collaborate, and More

NEW YORK CITY (October 4, 2021) — This November (5-7 and 11-14), Resy invites diners in ten cities to pay tribute to classic restaurants by taking part in The Classics Remix, a series of weekend-long pop-ups that accompanies Resy’s annual editorial package: The Classics, A Tribute to the Restaurants That Define Our Cities. In each city (Boston, Charleston, Houston, London, Los Angeles, Miami, New Orleans, New York, San Francisco, and Washington, D.C.) a top chef or restaurateur will partner with a famous food institution to create a multi-course remix menu – offered for dine-in and/or takeout, varying by city – that riffs on the institution’s signature fare.

For this second year of The Classics Remix, the series will travel to new cities for all-new collaborations. In NYC, hospitality icon Danny Meyer will pay tribute to Sparks Steak House, a New York institution that was the scene of a celebratory dinner in 1985 – the night he signed a lease for Union Square Cafe – and many occasions that followed. “Our cities are at their best when both new and old restaurants are thriving. There will always be new restaurants, but there’s something so special about going back to places you love,” says Meyer. “Sparks Steak House and New York City are as synonymous with, and to each other, as is bread and butter. Sparks is a symbiosis of life, family, business, growth, celebration, but also the tribulations, downturns, and the resilience, and like New York City, thankfully, we are still here,” says Steve Cetta, Owner of Sparks Steak House. The Meyers + Sparks remix meal will include Meyer’s go-to dishes, available for dine-in or to-go between November 5-7.

In San Francisco, chef Brandon Jew of Mister Jiu’s will team up with Zuni Café, a restaurant that has been an anchor of its community since 1979. “The energy within the walls of Zuni is always special. It is a place that welcomes anyone and everyone. It feels like the center of the city,” says Jew. “We have been interested in finding a way to reconnect with Brandon in the kitchen at Zuni and this collaboration was the perfect opportunity. We are excited for our guests to enjoy his takes on familiar Zuni Café classics,” says Nate Norris, Chef at Zuni Café. From November 12-14, a menu of Zuni Café classics adapted by Jew will be offered exclusively for dine-in.

In Miami, pioneering chef Michelle Bernstein, owner of popular Little Havana restaurant Cafe La Trova, puts a spotlight on another Little Havana establishment, La Camaronera. “I think it is important to preserve any South Florida institution, especially one that has always been there with the most delicious food, generous hospitality and incredible service for as long as La Camaronera has. We need to treasure and protect our institutions rather than constantly look to change. La Camaronera truly defines Miami’s palette and people; it shows off the best of our seafood while allowing the traditional Cuban flavors to shine through,” says Bernstein. “La Camaronera pays homage to the scores of Cuban immigrants who, like the Garcia brothers, settled here in search of their American dream. La Camaronera represents the hard work, perseverance, and grit required to make any dream a reality. It embodies the immigrant spirit and preserving and honoring places like ours is important to the identity of a city. They remind us of our roots, they enrich our culture, and they inspire us to dream,” David Garcia, Owner of La Camaronera.

For The Classics Remix’s international debut in London, chef Lee Tiernan of the perpetually packed Black Axe Mangal will spotlight Mangal 2, an east London Turkish ocakbasi restaurant run by brothers Ferhat and Sertaç Dirik. From November 11-13 diners at Mangal 2 can order Tiernan’s remix menu, an innovative Turkish spread of Raki Granita, Squid Ink Sarma, Numbing Yaprak Döner and more.

See full series lineup below and at Resy.com/ClassicsRemix. Reservations to dine in-person at participating institution restaurants and tickets to pre-reserve a meal for takeout/pickup will be available exclusively via Resy. Reservations go live Monday, October 11th at 10 am EST for American Express Card Members who enjoy 48 hours early access, and Wednesday, October 13 at 10 am EST for the general public.

Resy’s The Classics Remix series launched in 2020 with 3,600 diners served at restaurant takeovers in 8 cities, including Mike Solomonov sold-out three day takeover of Philly landmark Pat’s King of Steaks and Sean Brock’s takeover of Nashville’s Arnold’s Country Kitchen. Resy’s The Classics editorial package for 2021 includes 20+ features, curated guides, and essays penned by leading chefs + restaurateurs. To read more, visit Resy.com/Classics.
