Super Fat Rice Mart, Frontera, Marie-Jeanne and More: Now on the Resy At Home Hit List

Ever-buzzing Macanese restaurant Fat Rice is gone for the foreseeable future, as last week owners Adrienne Lo and Abe Conlon debuted a meal-kit business in its place, Super Fat Rice Mart. This Fat Rice 2.0 serves a mix of kits containing local produce, sauces and seasonings, and partially prepped iterations of favorite menu items, like frozen head-on prawns with sambal stuffing. You’ll also find packaged local beer and rare Portuguese wines, plus pantry provisions like sugar and chickpeas. Order here for pickup on weekends.

While we await the return of Jared Rouben and Jared Wentworth’s imaginative beer-pairings dining room and gastropub in its sprawling new South Loop home, we’ll happily settle for some of Rouben’s chef-minded beers in the meantime. Everyone knows the best tacos are those eaten just after assembly. Luckily, you can buy the city’s best pork carnitas — slow-cooked hunks of crisp-edged pork — by the pound or half-pound from this family-owned, specialty taqueria. Each order comes with all the necessary trimmings: soft corn tortillas, limes, chopped onion and cilantro, and excellent housemade salsas for drizzling. Spring has sprung at this stalwart French bistro, and with it some bright, seasonal faves for carryout or delivery. Recreate the joy of communal dining-out at home with an Ethiopian feast served atop tangy injera from this Edgewater institution. Ras Dashen’s hearty, slow-stewed entrees like chicken berbere with boiled eggs, spicy ground chickpea stew and sliced beef with onions in alicha (mild curry) sauce stand up beautifully to transit. Pile them atop your spongy injera raft, and scoop up fillings till your fingers are stained crimson from the warming sauce. This delightfully irreverent French eatery is back for the first time since March, with booze and merch everyday, and a limited food menu on weekends only, for now. Expect luxurious all-day fare like country-pâté club sandwiches, smoked chicken frites, seasonal shaved-vegetable salads, and pecan pie—available for next-day pickup Friday through Sunday. Rick Bayless’ always-bustling flagship pivoted to a more to-go friendly version of its creative Mexican menu, with dishes that are great for small groups. Think olive-flecked tuna ceviche and wood-grilled carne asada, or chicken with handmade tortillas sided by small or large portions of black beans and rice pilaf. This pint-sized storefront from brothers Uva and Lalo Leon churns out gorgeous scratch-baked delights, from horchata-flavored doughnuts to lemon-glazed danishes, moist chocolate chip cookies and crackly-edged croissants (if you see the almendra, get it!). Daily rotating specials include an excellent bacon, egg and cheddar breakfast sandwich, pre-baked half-loaves of Butterdough’s soft multigrain bread and raw croissant and cookie doughs, so you can bake their treats fresh at home. Korean-American eatery Parachute pivoted way back in March—reconfiguring its inventive menu for upmarket carryout lunch and dinner. Weekly-changing lunches include crispy pork katsu sandwiches, and dinners for two include Korean fried chicken with rice and assorted pickles, and warming soondubu jjigae (kimchi and soft tofu stew). Dinners always come with a few slices of Parachute’s fluffy, bacon-potato-stuffed bing bread, but in case that won’t suffice, you can buy full loaves daily for $20. Dusek’s scratches that seemingly eternal itch for comfort food that’s a step above, via a pared-down pub menu including half-chicken cassoulet with green garbanzos, spaghetti alla chitarra with ramp pesto, and a cheeseburger with beer pickles and beef-fat fries. Make the pub mood (almost) complete with four- and six-packs of beer, everything from Pipeworks double IPA to crushable Miller High Life. Recently back from Nashville, chef Ryan Poli (The Catbird Seat, Mercadito, Perennial) is channeling the restorative power of pasta with the Pasta Peddler, an underground pop-up slinging handmade noodles and fresh sauces. Poli’s meal kits come in two sizes: The half-order (for two) includes a half-pound of rigatoni, half-pound of bigoli and two pints of sauce, such as mushroom ragout and vodka sauce.
