Innovative and thoughtful dishes like grilled shishito peppers and pheasant shoyu sidle next to easy pleasures like the restaurant’s take on a Full English, but make no mistake — this place is the real deal. 

Because it’s fine dining, but not as you know it. With key members of the three Michelin-starred Fat Duck at the helm, this new London Bridge spot is primed for greatness. Dishes that mix fine European and Japanese produce with cutting-edge presentation — like a Hokkaido sweet potato mille-feuille with sake and white chocolate mousse — are both stunning and delicious, while a relaxed room and a world-class wine programme take it even further. Because there are few more influential duos than the founders of Rochelle Canteen, and this one-off dinner pays tribute to their excellence. The founders of one of London’s most beloved restaurants will be joined by material artists Sheelagh Boyce and Annabelle Harty for a night that celebrates the women of London’s restaurants, with plenty of art, conversation, community, wine, and generous servings of devilled crab, slow-cooked veal ossobucco, and tarte tatin with Jersey ice cream. 

Because chef Peter Sanchez-Iglesias’ London debut is a knockout, and we’re all in. Everything about this place screams glamour: from being whisked to the 10th floor of the Standard Hotel in a lipstick-red elevator, to the panoramic views of the city skyline and drop dead gorgeous plates of Spanish and Mexican cooking. Be prepared to drop some serious dollar, but be assured that it’s worth every penny.

Because this neighbourhood Mediterranean spot punches well above its weight. This Dalston restaurant proffers simple, high-quality dishes cooked over charcoal, paired to voguish low-intervention wines — in short, it’s everything we want to eat right now. There’s fork-tender ox cheek with hummus and monkfish with Libyan-style ‘chraime’ (spicy tomato sauce) at dinner, while a standout brunch menu features challah French toast and sweet aubergine sabich. 

Because lobster spaghetti for two sounds pretty damn spectacular to us. This superb London Bridge spot does a few things at a very high level — fantastic natural wines, spot-on service, and some of the best Italian food anywhere in the city right now. Chef Matt Beardmore cooked at some of the city’s best kitchens (namely, acclaimed Italian Trullo), and it shows, with hand-rolled pastas and standout seafood the highlights of a short-but-sweet menu. 

Because no-one does a Sunday roast like the Four Legs crew. At this long-term residency at beloved Islington boozer The Compton Arms, the beef is tender wagyu rump, and a whole roast chicken arrives with garlicky aioli and crisp French fries. Blasphemy for some, just plain fantastic gastropub cooking for everyone else. Wash down with good ale, rinse, and repeat — it’s a small space, so be sure to book well ahead. 

Because chef Helen Graham’s sublime vegetable cookery is the perfect antidote to the seasonal blues. This tiny Spitalfields restaurant has been packing them in since it opened a few weeks ago, with stellar Israeli-inflected dishes like fried aubergine with zhoug and date syrup, or meaty shiitake mushroom skewers fused to coriander and maple, that are both imaginative and delicious. 

Because this Charlotte Street glamourpuss is one of the best all-rounders in town. The Sicilian-Moorish menu is exciting yet accessible, interior details are exquisite, and the vibe is pure Fitzrovia (hello crushed velvet and brushed metal). Celebrated chef Ben Tish (ex-Salt Yard) is in charge of the kitchen, while Nuvola Tivoli is in charge of exceptional desserts like a honey gelato sundae spritzed with orange blossom water, studded with slow-cooked figs, ricotta and raisins.

Because one of London’s best just got better. This Michelin-baiting Indian restaurant hits the right notes — cosy dining areas, luscious interiors, stellar food — and ups the ante with a game-focused tasting menu that’s ultra-seasonal and rather good. Slow-cooked venison served with crisp paratha, yoghurt and fennel is unmissable; meanwhile, freshly-fried samosas encase tender partridge meat and cauliflower for a mind-blowing bite.
