New on Resy: Majordōmo, Simone, The Draycott

David Chang’s latest endeavor cracks LA’s food scene open. The Momofuku restaurant packs flavors from Korea to Italy, delivering a true melting pot experience that wows and delights. Majordōmo is a love letter to LA—and it’s absolutely worth the trip. Executive chef Jude Parra-Sickels’s menu highlights include the fried butterball potatoes, fried skate rice, and boneless chuck short rib.

Throw together a James Beard Award-winner (Rising Star Chef), an internationally-acclaimed bartender, a high-profile sommelier, and what do you get? Simone– chef Jessica Largey’s casual restaurant in the heart of the Arts District. The less-is-more philosophy highlights local produce, so dig into burrata with plum confit, pole beans with chili crème fraîche, or sunflower panna cotta, and smack your lips in delight.

Named after London’s Draycott Avenue where husband-and-wife duo Marissa and Matt Hermer first met, this British-inspired brasserie puts locally-sourced ingredients in the spotlight. The Draycott is an elegant, colorful, and family-friendly eatery that dishes out Southern California spins on classic British fare, so expect Fish & Chips and tea from the Queen’s favorite shop.

Beverly Hills nabbed a gem of a Greek restaurant. The chic and intimate Estiatorio Louká is an ode to family, tradition, and philoxenia (read: Greek hospitality). So gorge yourself on tiropites (phyllo pie with aged feta and mint), fresh salads, and kalamakia pork skewers, and take a trip to the Peloponnese peninsula, even if only for a night.

With its black subway tiles and checkered bistro chairs, Không Tên may appear more French than Vietnamese at first glance; however the name and enticing smell of fish sauce give it away, as chef-owner Kim Vu cooks modern Vietnamese cuisine through an LA lens. Grab the mussels in red curry, the Vietnamese corn elote, and the soy-glazed beef jerky.

You may be in Venice, but Bluestone Lane designed this location with Sydney in mind. The eatery pays tribute to the Surf Life Savings Clubs that populate the Aussie coast, dishing out avocado smash, brekkie bowls, and flat whites. Definitely bring your mates for coffee, drinks, and healthy-and-hearty foods.

Once located in a secluded alleyway, Croft Alley has taken residency at The Standard Hotel. The café, which boasts a cult following, spins artful food made with fresh and surprising ingredients. Come for the French scramble, house-made chlorophyll yoghurt, and the fan-favorite tuna melt. Stay because you’ll instantly feel like a regular.

California meets Mexico at this little neighborhood spot. Prima Cocina blends elements of Mexico’s culinary heritage with the coastal cuisine of the Baja peninsula, using a Californian approach to seasonality and locality. Pro-tip: shrimp tacos are a surefire hit.

Consider it a pleasant surprise that one of LA’s most exciting plant-based restaurants lurks in the shadows behind Universal Studios. And here, Vegetable nails its vegetables. The rustic and organic spot imparts bold flavors to its humble produce, churning slow-roasted heritage carrots, fire-charred brussel sprouts, and pan-seared saffron corn cakes. And it obviously goes without saying: no meat substitutes allowed.

There’s a new Italian contender in the Pacific Palisades. Tratto stays true to its roots, serving Italian staples like handmade pasta and crackling pizza. It’s comfort food like your nonna used to make. That is, if you grew up Italian… If not, there’s nothing like a heaping serving of gnocchetti to make you feel as though you did.

Backed by three generations of authentic Mexican home cooking, the Heredia family opened Caló, their latest restaurant in El Segundo. The bright and buzzy spot makes excellent spicy camarones, but you better be sipping tequila: the restaurant prides itself on only sourcing the small-batch varieties made the old-fashioned way, resulting in a sweeter and smoother profile.
