The Miami Restaurants We Loved in July
Published:
If there’s one thing you must know about the people who work at Resy, it’s that we genuinely love restaurants …
This month, Team Resy sought out the city’s best pancakes, reunited with a tried-and-true lasagna, uncovered a truly epic brunch buffet, and saved room for tableside tiramisu and pistachio gelato alike.
It remains one of the best restaurants in Miami…
Just walking into the lobby of the Four Seasons in Surfside, where The Surf Club resides, you know that you are in for a special treat. The hospitality at the restaurant is second to none, and the room is warm and inviting. The roasted chicken and lobster thermidor were outstanding and completely reset your expectations of these classic dishes (in the best way possible). This place is a must to visit, again and again.

It’s been a while since I’ve been to a truly epic brunch buffet…
… but I recently checked out the Sunday brunch at Casadonna and I was dazzled by every element of it, from the gorgeous waterfront “patio” (which is really a massive outdoor dining room) to the buffet options. There was everything from raw bar bites and sushi platters to fresh salads, carving stations, breakfast staples (like chicken and waffles), to several kinds of pastas, and a dessert table overflowing with cakes, cookies, pastries, and a chocolate fountain. Pair it with one of the bottomless drink options and you’ve got a truly decadent feast for closing out the weekend.

I love pasta, but…
… I always save room for dessert when I dine at Dōma. The pistachio gelato transports me straight to Italy. It’s creamy, rich, and indulgent — what else could you ask for? And now, with this sweltering heat, I enjoy popping in at the bar just for dessert.

I told myself I needed a break…
… from Walrus Rodeo in order to make space to try all of the other restaurant recommendations I get. But somehow, I cannot turn down an invite to eat here — my sommelier friend “dragged” me with her and I obliged. The anchovies with butter are a must for me every time, no exception. We also ordered the bone marrow and could not get enough of it. The mustard green lasagna makes me dance in my seat — just don’t expect your super traditional lasagna here if you order it (but do expect to love it). All in all, Walrus is a consistently delicious spot that’s ranked high on my yummy list.

There’s a reason…
… Walrus Rodeo continues to be one of Miami’s top restaurants. Perhaps it’s the fact that each dish has one element coming out of their wood-fired oven? (It really adds an extra element). The salads were fantastic, but the star is the mustard green lasagna. I also highly recommend sitting at the chef’s counter.

After an overwhelming craving got the best of me…
… I asked several friends for the best pancakes in town, and went with my pal Edwin’s top pick: the buttermilk pancakes at Pastis. He was on the money — the pancakes were thick, dense, with a crispy golden rim, yet still fluffy when you bit into them, and topped with a fine maple syrup (none of that corn syrup here). I even ran into an old colleague from my past life in restaurants, now a bartender at Pastis, who wouldn’t let me leave without trying the foie gras parfait (because who can leave a French restaurant without having a bit of foie?). It was my first time at Pastis and certainly not my last.

Before heading into the Rubell Museum…
… we stopped for a drink and a snack at Jon & Vinny’s. Their colorful and inviting dining room very much added to the experience, and we really enjoyed the service. Having crayons for their paper placemats was a fun surprise for us adults — it was a great start to our museum visit.

A hidden North Bay Village spot run by Italian chefs…
… Petralunga serves Roman-style pizza that’s thin and crispy and Milanese-style focaccia. The tableside tiramisu is a must and that is coming from someone who never goes for it. Add to that bayfront views that are outstanding, indoors and out; covered parking; and the best weekly specials in the city, and you’ve got yourself a proper gem.

I loved my time…
… at Kaori, where we ordered the seared local fish, a dry-aged steak, and the short rib dumplings. But the real stars were the desserts: the mille-feuille and the caramel namelaka were exceptional. And don’t sleep on the cocktails, the Ume Tonikku (gin, plum liqueur, umeshu, shiso, tonic) and Cooler #3 (mezcal, miso-blueberry cordial, lime Thai basil) were fantastic.

I can’t stop popping into this local gem…
On my most recent visit to Silverlake Bistro, I went for the burger and my favorite radicchio salad with anchovies (I can never resist anchovies on a menu). My favorite table is by the corner window or out on the patio.

I had an excellent meal…
… at Avalon, where we kicked things off with crab cake croquettes (perfectly crispy on the outside, and tender and savory on the inside) that had a hint of lemony zest. For my main, I had a bowl of al dente spicy vodka pasta, coated in a creamy, fiery sauce that clung to every bite. We paired it all with ice-cold margaritas, which were tangy and strong with just the right salt rim to keep things refreshing.
