The Miami Restaurants We Loved in February

By

If there’s one thing you must know about the people who work at Resy, it’s that we genuinely love restaurants …

This month, Team Resy properly rang in Lunar New Year, found the perfect tuna melt, were wowed by focaccia, and welcomed an iconic New York restaurant to Miami.

A welcome addition to the awesome Miami food scene that continues to be on the rise…

Rosemary’s brings everything that made their New York location a beloved restaurant for more than a decade, whilst adding special touches to make it fit into Miami: a phenomenal patio perfect for outdoor dining (but with a great indoor dining room and bar area to combat the ups and downs of our weather), and enough space to cultivate even more vegetables and herbs than they can in New York. The food is phenomenal and you can taste the genuine love for food and Italian heritage that founder Carlos Suarez and his team bring to the table. The salads and top-notch pastas are not to be missed.

In celebration of Lunar New Year…

… Resy and Tâm Tâm threw an amazing block party. On top of dragon dancers, DJs, and themed cocktails, the food really stood out. Resy partners Kaori and Miss Crispy Rice had some fantastic dim sum, like shrimp siu mai and pho beef dumplings respectively, while the Tâm Tâm team was cranking out their famous fish sauce caramel wings. Overall, it was a great time celebrating the year of the snake and the food of Miami.

Whenever I’m in Miami…

Little Hen is a must. The dining room is beautiful, bright, and filled with flowers; they offer an amazing tea service; and you really can’t go wrong, whether you’re having scones with clotted cream or chilaquiles.

A multi-year nominee for the James Beard Awards’ best baker award…

Zak the Baker also runs a mean café. The tuna melt on their country sourdough is a show-stopper and is best enjoyed with a Miami staple, yuca fries (their version comes with saffron and red mojo). We capped off the meal with the double chocolate babka, guava and cheese pastelito, and cheese Danish, all of which more than validate the acclaim and accolades they’ve received.

The phrase “spoiled for choice” is an understatement…

… when it comes to Kissaki’s Miami Beach menu. It is so extensive, so if you’re feeling bold (or suffering from chronic decision fatigue, like we were), ask the team to curate a menu of their greatest hits for you. It’s extra personalized: they asked for our budget, plus anything we loved or wanted to avoid, and it was definitely the way to go. Their soft-shell crab futomaki, Wagyu crispy rice, and truffle scallops were three of the best dishes I’ve had in a while. Don’t sleep on this place!

We ordered the entire menu…

… at Krüs Kitchen, a homey restaurant right above Michelin-starred Los Félix. When our group of five visited, the menu had 13 items and we had it all — everything was phenomenally portioned and presented (with a great wine selection to boot), and my personal winners were the heirloom tomatoes with tuna tartare, the smoked coconut rice with saffron custard and colossal crab, and the ibérico pork chop with a turnip chimichurri. Everyone left this small plates experience with a big smile and a happy stomach.

Ever since it opened in 2012…

… I’ve loved Rosemary’s in New York, and was so delighted to find out they were opening in Miami. They’re just a few weeks in but already firing on all cylinders, serving their signature pastas, focaccias, and more, but this time, with a stunning garden for al fresco dining in the heart of Wynwood.

My all-time favorites: the Rosemary spritz, the caprese focaccia, and the orecchiette with sausage, broccoli rabe, and chile were all perfect. And may I add that the (not-on-the-menu) buttered pasta they prepared for my kids was the best they/I’ve ever had!?

The dish that stole the show…

… was an appetizer at Mother Wolf. I absolutely loved the sfincione in bianco (chef Evan Funke’s signature focaccia), though the rigatoni all’amatriciana and the olive oil torta were also spectacular.

I had the chance to attend the opening night…

… for the new (and third) location of Bondi Sushi in Brickell. The sushi counter had a really intimate vibe to it, which was highlighted by the fresh and delicious 12-course sushi omakase (which happily won’t break the bank). We paired it with a variety of crispy rice topped with spicy tuna, lobster with yuzu, and truffle avocado. The chef was friendly and explained every course, and it was a great dining experience overall. Looking forward to returning for the rest of the expansive menu.
