The June Hit List: Bolo, Laurel, Mission Taqueria, and More

By

It’s an exciting month for restaurants and enthusiastic diners alike — with the arrival of summer, of course, but also the James Beard Awards happening in Chicago. We’re offering a shoutout to all the Philadelphia finalists, mindful of just how many good options from up-and-coming talent we have here at home.

To wit: Center City welcomes BOLO, run by a Puerto Rican chef serving Caribbean and Latin American childhood favorites. Elsewhere, My Loup on Sansom Street, sister restaurant to James Beard finalist Her Place, joins Darling Jack’s Tavern, the newest addition to the Safran Turney Hospitality group on 13th Street. And further southwest on Gray’s Ferry Avenue you’ll find a cozy neighborhood joint, illata, marrying farm-fresh ingredients with Italian cooking techniques.

Who knows? This month’s Resy Hit List might even include some future nominees. The talent in Philly is real, and it’s spectacular.
