Now Open on Resy: The General Muir, Bar Vegan, Little Bear, Blaze, and More

The General Muir is a Jewish deli with a Southern drawl. Slide into one of the booths and prepare to have a feast that might include a mouthwatering pastrami sandwich piled high on rye bread (naturally), house-made bagels with smoked fish, or latkes — hopefully, it’s some combination of all the above. Don’t forget to order a cup of coffee and a black-and-white cookie.

Theatrical drinks are en vogue again thanks to Pinky Cole making it so at her new concept. Located on the second floor of Ponce City Market, Bar Vegan serves over-the-top cocktails (think drinks served in Ferris wheels) as well as non-alcoholic libations. Cole paired up with Derrick Hayes, owner of Big Dave’s Cheesesteaks, to create vegan takes on bar food like Philly cheesesteaks and egg rolls.

Chef-owner Jarrett Stieber considers his cooking approach to be a little punk, so expect a menu that’s creative and full of sass. Stieber and his team work mainly with local farmers, so the dishes change often but you can always count on them being plant-forward (don’t worry, carnivores, there are still plenty of meats to choose from) and presented beautifully. Keep an eye out for the shooter flight (yes, a flight of shots) which sometimes includes a Jell-O shot.

The interior of Doro’s is replete with arches and brick walls, setting the tone for the Italian feast that awaits you. The family-owned spot specializes in Italian American classics like chicken parmesan, fried calamari, and calzones with various fillings (like cheesesteak and chicken pesto). Of course, you have to save room for the tiramisu and mini cannoli.

Blaze Steak and Seafood promises beautiful food in an equally glamorous atmosphere. The brainchild of “Real Housewives of Atlanta’s” Kandi Burruss and her husband Todd Tucker, you’ll find classic dishes like oysters and steaks on the menu. Brunch is an extravagant affair with items like the deep-fried stuffed French toast and fried lobster tail and waffles. Note: There is a dress code.

It’s not every day that you get to dine in a converted fire station. Negril retained some of the historic fire station’s features — like the tin ceiling with openings for fire poles — which makes this a particularly unique place to dine. As the name suggests, they serve Jamaican- and Caribbean-inspired dishes (think oxtail empanadas, jerk wings, red snapper, and curried goat). Pair it all with a mango mojito.

Joy Cafe won over Atlantans with standout brunch options — biscuits with chorizo gravy, fluffy pancakes, and shrimp and grits — and a cheery atmosphere. They also serve dinner with comforting fare like thick-cut fried mozzarella, buttermilk fried chicken, and southern grilled cheese. Did we mention the cookies-and-milk pie? Casual comfort is the name of the game at the Rotisserie Shop. Run by wife-and-husband team, Karla Geniso and Chris Malfitano, the Rotisserie Shop specializes in rotisserie-cooked meats like chicken and pork served in a variety of ways. Try the chicken salad BLT or the buttermilk chicken strips.

The key word at Patria Cocina is “fresh.” Owned by Mexican immigrants from Jalisco and Michoacán, Patria Cocina brings bright flavors to a beautifully designed space in the Beacon development. You won’t find canned sauces or drinks made with artificial ingredients, here. Instead, you’ll find freshly prepared items like the roasted tomatillo salsa and chicken mole negro along with drinks such as the Boss margarita.

With blue-hued lights, a mural of a red octopus wrapped around a pearl diver, and 3-D bead flooring, Girl Diver is a decidedly sexy take on the seafood house. Located in the mixed-use development of Madison Yards, Richard Tang’s restaurant specializes in Southeast Asian fare like green curry mussels and twists on American classics like lobster macaroni and cheese with house-smoked gruyere, white truffle oil, chives, and furikake seasoning and bacon pieces. There’s also an indoor-outdoor bar to enjoy cocktails, beer, and wine.

Little Spirit is an intimate spot that’s just as well suited for date night as it is an outing with a group of friends. Art by local artist Erica Arndts graces the walls, and the drink list is stacked with creative tipples like the frozen Blue Myself (vodka, blueberry, mint, lemon) and Noni’s Fix (barrel-aged gin, rosé vermouth, herbal liqueur, amaro, bitters, absinthe spritz). It’s an excellent place to stop for a drink or two before or after dinner in the bustling neighborhood.

Kona Grill has a little bit of everything, and a big space in which to serve it. Located in the mixed-use development of Avalon, Kona Grill has a spacious dining room with a soothing ocean-themed motif (check out those jelly fish-inspired lighting fixtures). You’ll find dishes like edamame, avocado egg rolls, and macadamia nut chicken on the menu. The patio has ample seating as well as fire pits for those chilly nights.
