London’s Best Restaurant Deliveries to Celebrate a Special Occasion

This upscale, contemporary Greek restaurant has a deft approach to sunny Mediterranean flavours, and its celebratory finish-at-home box for two lives up to the standards of its acclaimed kitchen. A three-course menu with dessert and a wine pairing is uncomplicated, but effective; braised featherblade beef with artichokes and Kalamata olives offers comfort, while baked lobster with Metaxa cream sauce is equally occasion-worthy. Few things are worth splurging on like great sushi. This Bethnal Green neighbourhood gem should be a local go-to for a big night in, but it’s worth going in on the 55-piece sushi platter for two (with a mix of classic nigiri and contemporary rolls), or an omakase set for two, with four paired cocktails to share. Throw in a few pieces of otoro nigiri or perhaps an order of miso black cod, and you’re all set. Order before 5pm for same-night delivery.

With the value of ethical and sustainably farmed meat demonstrated frequently, if anything deserves the status of an occasional treat, it’s a nicely marbled steak or a beautiful joint of lamb. Known as a restaurant and cookshop, Hill & Szrok are also one of the city’s best butchers, and its côte de boeuf (via their online shop) fits the bill perfectly; likewise, covetable restaurant-quality cuts of Tamworth pork from Gothelney Farm, or Cornish cull yaw chops are worthy of a celebratory occasion.

This Stoke Newington gastropub (from the team behind the Anchor & Hope and Canton Arms) specialises in comforting fare prepared with finesse, and since lockdown, it’s owned the takeaway game – its roasts and pies are almost unimprovable. Set menus include starters like whipped goats curd with slow-roast carrots, while dessert is either a classic pudding or tiramisu. Upgrade with additional Spanish truffle crisps from its deli, posh smoked salmon and perhaps a bottle from their cellar. Delivery available via Big Night.

Sandia Chang – of Bubbledogs and the two-starred Kitchen Table – is already renowned for her playful pairing of fine, grower champagnes with gourmet hot dogs at her Fitzrovia restaurant.
