The November Hit List: Boxcar, Rock Steady, and More

Afro-Caribbean cuisine is the heart of Rock Steady, a Midtown eatery that prides itself on bringing diners a taste of the greater African diaspora. Craving Vietmanese sandwiches? Make your way to Be Banh Mi in Buford Highway’s Koreatown Plaza. As this restaurant is still a newcomer and has only been open for a few months, their menu is limited to a selection of six sandwiches, including meatball and teriyaki chicken. Craft beer and food combine in West End’s Boxcar, an offshoot restaurant of Hop City. Diners can expect loaded pork skins, a selection of salads — think a quinoa-avocado bowl and Cobb salad — and sandwiches complete with either turkey chili or Boxcar’s signature hand cut fries. The brainchild of Colombian refugee Ivan Romero, Con Leche Coffee Bar is Reynoldstown’s newest coffee haunt. Offerings from Con Leche are a hodgepodge of local goods: beans from Radio Roaster in Decatur, honey from Honey Next Door (also in Atlanta), chocolates from Candor Chocolates in Athens, and baked goods from Root Baking Co. For those who need a consistent coffee fix, Con Leche has a membership program where those who opt-in for $10 per week can get unlimited ice and drip coffee. Place takeout orders online. 

Midcentury tavern flair is the ethos of Reynoldstown’s Golden Eagle. The restaurant is housed in a historic, now restored, former train depot lining the Beltline Eastside Trail. For menu offerings, choose from beef tartare; pasta alla carbonara with bucatini and shaved speck; or a half-chicken alongside tomato molasses, Greek yogurt, herbs and potatoes. Tucked away from metro Atlanta in Thomasville, Liam’s blends a New American menu with European twists. Offerings include sourdough boule, buttermilk fried quail, and gruyere mashed potatoes among many other items. Order takeout online. 

For the fondue lovers, The Melting Pot is always a good choice. For diners, there are three fondue categories to choose: cheese, entree and chocolate. Cheese fondue is for appetizer items and the chocolate for dessert. Melting Pot’s dining room is open but carryout orders are available as well. The genesis of this Korean fried chicken restaurant featuring “Seoul” in Midtown Atlanta is two friends — Peter and Sean — who met in a college dorm.
