This Week’s At Home Hit List: Hicce, Romulo Cafe, Hawksmoor, and More

Perfectly in time for the height of summer, Berber & Q are offering DIY barbecue boxes for pickup and delivery within 2.5 miles of their Haggerston restaurant. Each box is loaded with cocktail kits and ready-to-grill takes on cult dishes like harissa chicken, slow-cooked lamb shoulder, and their beloved cauliflower shawarma. If a single delivery defined the ethos of “if something’s worth doing, it’s worth overdoing,” the Hawksmoor at Home box is it. A substantial meal for two, £120 gets you a 35-day dry-aged porterhouse, bone marrow and Madeira jus, sides, a bottle of their own-labeled malbec, and a cocktail kit with an entire bottle of Hepple gin (because what’s a steak dinner without martinis)? Between Thursday and Saturday, this Shoreditch gem offers its Mediterranean-inflected menu for delivery and takeaway, with a broad selection of dishes to finish at home. Pork-cheek agnolotti with porcini butter is a must, while Galician octopus, crispy chickpeas with labneh, and olive oil cake are as good as you’ll eat at the restaurant. A chirashi bento box from this high-end sushi-ya is pricey, but Michelin-star sushi hand delivered by the chef himself rarely comes cheap. Arguably the best sushi in London, Endo Kazutoshi’s sushi counter was difficult to book when it was open, and his occasional sushi deliveries sell out just as quickly. Expect perfect rice topped with thick slices of bream, wagyu, otoro, unagi, and more. Keep an eye on his Instagram, and drop him an email when you get the green light.

Adored for perfectly-grilled yakitori and creative cocktails, Jidori have recently reopened to offer delivery from their Dalston restaurant. As well as barbecue-ready party packs, expect outstanding chicken yakitori rice bowls, generous portions of katsu curry, and sides like crisp karaage or a legendary katsu Scotch egg (one of the best in London). You can also order a small selection of Japanese groceries and cocktails, for takeaway or delivery via Slerp or Deliveroo.

This classic Filipino restaurant in Kensington is offering a five-course tasting menu for two for £40. Excellent for long-time lovers and newcomers to the cuisine alike, the spread includes crowd pleasers like chicken or pork adobo, stir-fried pancit (rice noodles) with plump prawns, pritong pusit (crispy squid), and mango float for after. A go-to for fresh, hand-crimped dumplings and Chinese-style small plates, My Neighbours also does a mean line in delivery too. Rice boxes, dumplings, and small plates like a prawn toast “sando” or marinated silken tofu are on offer, while jianbing (Chinese savoury pancakes) stuffed with Devon crab, smokey jackfruit, or cumin lamb, are available to take away from both their Clapton and Victoria Park sites. A cuisine driven by fresh produce, vegetables and herbs, Nigerian cuisine has a long history in London, and the fast-casual I Go Chop may be the best way to get it delivered. Expect classic dishes like jollof rice with grilled chicken or fish, verdant egusi soup, and Ayamase stew. There’s also plenty for vegetarians and large groups. Having helmed the Michelin-starred Murano and handily won Great British Menu, Pip Lacey’s restaurant Hicce has all the creativity you’d expect from a chef with such pedigree. Luckily, she’s opened up Hicce Market beneath her Kings Cross restaurant, open 7 days a week, stocked with homemade treats (like the chef’s legendary beer bread), artisanal cheese, charcuterie, and wine, plus an open terrace with a grill and cold draught beers. Delivering some of London’s best gelato across all postcodes on Saturdays, Jacob Kenedy (of evergreen Italian Bocca di Lupo) quite literally knows how to deliver.
