Last year, chef Budgie Montoya captivated the hearts of diners across the city with his contemporary take on the Filipino dishes of his heritage, like slow-cooked pork lechon, adobo, and kare-kare. Far from being the subject of a late-night DM, this delivery-only “restaurant” opened in the middle of lockdown from a hotshot duo of chefs (with a collective CV that includes Silo, Cub, and St. John). Dishes from a weekly-changing set menu are as good as you’ll eat from home; turbot in elderflower-vin jaune sauce, Sichuan pepper-glazed rabbit, and Basque burnt cheesecake are a little towards fine dining, yet still casual. Blending mass appeal with critical acclaim, London’s game-changing pasta bar is back. Fans — which is to say, everyone — will be glad to hear that the restaurant is delivering pasta kits of its standout beef-shin ragu and tomato taglierini, requiring minimal effort while delivering all the pleasure. Fallow’s cheeseburger just hit central London, and it’s a belter. A patty of aged beef from ex-dairy cow is topped with cheese, smoked bacon, pickles and smoked mayo; it stays true to the restaurant’s sustainable ethos (ex-dairy cows have a much smaller carbon footprint than beef cattle) while delivering a hit perfect for fine weather. South of the river, this Brixton staple’s Nouvelle Caribbean dishes are genuinely some of the best things you can order to enjoy at home. Punchy plates of curried mutton, jerk chicken, and coconut prawns need only rice or roti; meanwhile, doubles make for perfect sunshine eating with a homemade ginger beer or a Trinidadian lager.
